Responsibilities
Tasks
-
Conduct maintenance and emergency repairs to engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment
-
Inspect maintenance and emergency repairs done on engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment
-
Operate main engines, machinery and auxiliary equipment on ships
-
Supervise and co-ordinate activities of engine room crew
-
Stand engine room watch, monitoring and noting performance of engines, machinery and all auxiliary equipment
-
Maintain records and prepare reports on engine performance and failures
-
Control and extinguish fires using manual and power equipment
-
Administer first aid in emergency situations
-
Ensure that the installation, maintenance, repair and overhaul of systems meet Transport Canada and company standards of performance and safety
