Dexcent is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager/Senior Accountant to join our team in a full-time capacity. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative team and play an important role within our organization.

About the Role:

The Accounting Manager / Senior Accountant is the senior financial position within Dexcent and is accountable for the full accounting and financial reporting function. This is a hands-on, working-manager role that combines direct execution of full-cycle accounting with supervision of the Financial Analyst and financial support to the executive and operational teams.

The position leads month-end and year-end close, consolidations, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, banking, compliance, project accounting, and financial systems. They are comfortable working in the details, independently completing critical accounting work, and providing practical financial insight to support sound business decisions.

Responsibilities

Detailed duties and responsibilities include:

Financial Reporting and Close

Own and complete the monthly close process for Canadian and U.S. entities, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, intercompany entries, reconciliations, and consolidation.
Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements and management reporting packages, including cash flow, sales, gross margin, project performance, and other decision-support reporting.
Analyze actual results against budget and forecast, investigate variances, identify risks and trends, and communicate actionable insights to the President, executives, and operational leaders.
Maintain complete balance sheet working papers and ensure the general ledger is accurate, supported, and reconciled.
Lead fiscal year-end close, prepare files and working papers for the external accounting firm, coordinate requests, and record approved year-end adjustments.
Maintain documented accounting policies, close checklists, recurring deadlines, and appropriate review controls.

Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Analysis

Lead the annual budgeting process, including templates, instructions, assumptions, departmental submissions, consolidation, review, and final reporting.
Maintain rolling forecasts and cash flow forecasts and update them as business conditions change.
Develop and maintain financial models, business cases, key performance indicators, and management dashboards.
Provide financial analysis and practical recommendations to support pricing, resource planning, cost management, project decisions, and corporate initiatives.
Partner with executives and managers to improve forecast accuracy, understand financial performance, and resolve financial issues.

Project Accounting and Commercial Governance

Ensure projects are set up correctly in the ERP system and that project financial data, billing structures, budgets, and reporting requirements are accurate.
Oversee revenue recognition, work in progress, unbilled revenue, deferred revenue, project accruals, project profitability, and related reconciliations.
Provide financial review and input within the commercial governance process, including pricing, margin, payment terms, financial risk, and the financial implications of proposed agreements.
Work with project managers and operational leaders to resolve billing, cost, margin, forecasting, and project reporting issues.
Ensure client financial reporting is accurate, timely, and aligned with contractual requirements.

Treasury, Banking and Working Capital

Manage daily cash position, short- and medium-term cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and authorized access to banking platforms.
Monitor accounts receivable, collections, accounts payable, payment timing, credit exposure, and other working-capital priorities.
Approve or release banking transactions within delegated authority and maintain appropriate segregation of duties and controls.
Administer corporate credit cards, signing authorities, banking documentation, and financing or covenant reporting requirements, as applicable.

Accounting Operations and Team Leadership

Supervise, coach, develop, and provide day-to-day direction to the accounting department.
Oversee and ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, customer collections, cash applications, employee expenses, timesheets, payroll inputs, and client reporting.
Personally complete or support operational accounting work when required to meet deadlines, resolve issues, or maintain continuity.
Establish clear roles, calendars, procedures, service standards, and backup coverage across the accounting function.
Promote accountability, confidentiality, collaboration, continuous improvement, and alignment with Dexcent policies and values.

Payroll, Tax, Grants and Compliance

Oversee payroll processing and ensure required deductions, remittances, T4s, T2200s, WCB filings, and related records are accurate and completed on time.
Coordinate GST/HST, corporate tax, statutory, and regulatory filings with internal and external resources.
Maintain compliance with applicable Canadian and U.S. accounting, payroll, tax, and reporting requirements, with advice from external specialists where required.
Coordinate SR&ED claims, the Alberta productivity grant, and other funding programs, including documentation, deadlines, reporting, and liaison with advisors or funding bodies.
Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, support auditability, and reduce error and fraud risk.
Monitor compliance obligations and escalate emerging risks, missed deadlines, control gaps, or accounting concerns promptly.

Systems, Data and Process Improvement

Act as the finance process owner for ERP and related financial systems, including master data, chart of accounts, analytic structures, products, workflows, access, controls, and reporting design.
Lead or participate in ERP upgrades, testing, issue resolution, implementation of new modules, and end-user adoption.
Ensure financial data structures support reliable department, sub-department, project, entity, and management reporting.
Identify and implement practical improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and business insight.
Maintain current process documentation and ensure critical financial information is stored in approved, accessible locations.

Corporate and Leadership Support

Provide clear, concise financial information and recommendations to the President, executive team, and leaders.
Participate in planning, performance review, risk management, and other leadership discussions where financial input is required.
Support new ventures, corporate changes, financing, due diligence, and special projects through accurate analysis, documentation, and financial coordination.
Maintain a professional and constructive communication style with customers, vendors, advisors, banks, team members, and other stakeholders.
Support Dexcent safety, security, privacy, and compliance programs and perform other duties or special projects assigned by the President.

Education & Experience

CPA designation is preferred. Candidates with substantial relevant experience and strong full-cycle accounting capability may be considered.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, commerce, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of progressive full-cycle accounting experience, including independent responsibility for month-end close and financial statement preparation.
Experience supervising or coordinating the work of at least one accounting team member.
Experience in a services-based, engineering, consulting, technology, or project-based business is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience with project accounting, revenue recognition, consolidations, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and year-end working papers.
Advanced Excel capability, including complex formulas, lookups, pivot tables, financial models, and data analysis.
Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools. Odoo experience is an asset.
Experience with Canadian and U.S. entities, SR&ED, government grants, payroll, or commercial governance is an asset.
