Job Description: Business Analyst V – AI, Data & Risk Solutions

Location: Toronto, ON

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 2 days onsite and 3 days remote per week

Contract Duration: 1 year

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst V – AI, Data & Risk Solutions to support the development of enterprise data and AI solutions within a leading financial institution.

This role is ideal for a technically proficient Business or Data Analyst with experience in risk management, highly regulated environments, data analysis, and AI-related technologies. The successful candidate will work closely with internal business and technology stakeholders to translate complex technical concepts into business requirements, support project delivery, and contribute to the development of innovative data and AI solutions.

The role requires strong analytical and technical documentation skills, practical knowledge of Python and SQL, and familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management practices. Candidates should be comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with frequent stakeholder meetings and evolving priorities.

This opportunity also provides exposure to enterprise AI initiatives and a potential career pathway toward product ownership or product management in the AI and data space.

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis and Requirements Management

• Gather, analyze, and document business requirements for enterprise data, AI, and risk-related initiatives.
• Translate business needs into functional requirements, technical specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Work with business and technical stakeholders to understand problems, define objectives, and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, process flows, roadmaps, and project artifacts.
• Identify dependencies, risks, assumptions, constraints, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Ensure requirements are clearly communicated and aligned with business objectives and technical capabilities.

Data Analysis and Technical Solutions

• Read, write, and analyze Python and SQL code to support data analysis, validation, and business problem-solving.
• Work with complex datasets to identify patterns, investigate discrepancies, and generate actionable insights.
• Collaborate with data science, engineering, and technology teams to support enterprise data and AI solution development.
• Help translate analytical findings and technical outputs into clear business recommendations.
• Support data quality, validation, and documentation activities throughout the solution development lifecycle.

Project Management and Agile Delivery

• Apply Agile principles and project management practices to support effective delivery of business and technical initiatives.
• Contribute to project planning, roadmap development, documentation, prioritization, and progress tracking.
• Collaborate with delivery teams to monitor milestones, manage dependencies, and ensure deliverables meet established timelines.
• Participate in project meetings, working sessions, and stakeholder discussions.
• Identify delivery risks and communicate issues and recommendations proactively.
• Adapt to changing business priorities and contribute to multiple initiatives as required.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

• Collaborate with internal business partners, technology teams, data professionals, and project stakeholders.
• Communicate technical concepts in clear, accessible business language.
• Facilitate discussions to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and align stakeholders on project outcomes.
• Prepare status updates, presentations, and documentation for diverse audiences.
• Build productive working relationships and support a collaborative team environment.

Tools and Documentation

• Use Jira and Confluence to support Agile delivery, requirements tracking, and project documentation.
• Work with Clarity and SharePoint for project management, collaboration, and document management.
• Leverage Microsoft Copilot to support productivity and applicable AI-enabled workflows.
• Maintain accurate, organized, and accessible project documentation in accordance with organizational standards.

Mandatory Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Business Analysis, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in risk management within financial institutions, healthcare, or other highly regulated environments.
• Business or Data Analyst experience meeting one of the following criteria:
• 5+ years with a bachelor’s degree.
• 3+ years with a master’s degree.
• Understanding of project management principles and Agile methodologies.
• Strong technical documentation skills, including requirements, process documentation, and roadmaps.
• Ability to read and write code using Python and SQL.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Clarity, SharePoint, and Microsoft Copilot.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, time-management, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into meaningful business requirements and recommendations.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Master’s degree in computer science, Business Analysis, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• Background in data science, AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics.
• Certifications in AI, data science, cloud computing, or related technologies.
• Experience supporting enterprise AI, data modernization, or technology transformation initiatives.
• Experience working in financial services, banking, fraud solutions, risk management, or other regulated industries.
• Interest in progressing toward Product Owner or Product Manager responsibilities within AI and data solutions.

The ideal candidate is a senior Business or Data Analyst with a strong technical foundation and experience working in regulated environments. They can bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical teams, understand data and code, produce high-quality documentation, and support the delivery of complex enterprise solutions.

Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, sound analytical judgment, an organized approach to project delivery, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
