Summary: Reporting to the Divisional Vice President, West, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing facility maintenance programs across all Western Canada operations. This role provides direction and oversight for preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities, ensuring facilities are maintained safely, efficiently, and in accordance with organizational standards.
The Maintenance Manager is accountable for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of maintenance programs, systems, and processes that support asset reliability and cost optimization. Working closely with Regional Operations Directors (RODs) and the Fleet Maintenance team, the position ensures maintenance activities are prioritized, coordinated, and executed effectively across a diverse portfolio of remote hospitality and workforce accommodation sites.
This role provides leadership to Maintenance Planners and field maintenance personnel while leveraging the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to drive planning, compliance, reporting, and performance measurement. The Maintenance Manager is also responsible for monitoring utility consumption, evaluating contractor and service provider performance, supporting procurement and RFP initiatives, and recommending strategies that reduce operating costs, improve facility quality, and extend asset life.
Specific Accountabilities
- Manage and maintain the overall Facility Maintenance program based on best practices within the industry, with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventative/predictive/corrective maintenance.
- Take leadership in maintaining a safe work environment at all times including, coordination with HSE Representative, reports or other items as may be required.
- Constant evaluation of overall maintenance program and offer solutions to improve all areas.
- Implement and coordinate audits of the maintenance system as required.
- Identify priority levels of required corrective maintenance (ie; determine sequence of maintenance items based on the impact to the overall operation).
- Maintain Maintenance Management System program in order to provide accurate and up-to-date reports as required.
- Oversee the daily work order input into CMMS program that is received from client, residents or technicians request.
- Oversee the daily distribution of work orders, as required for both preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Assist with the collection of completed work orders, as required, on a daily basis and inputting completed task information into CMMS program.
- Assist with the daily input of payroll information (time sheets), as required.
- Maintaining inventory of materials, consumables and tools. May also include ordering of materials or coordination of material requests to purchasing department.
- Maintain employee files and handle all personnel matters in a confidential manner.
- Handle all disciplinary action in conjunction with the companies HR policies.
- Ensure that all technicians are trained on the most updated version of the operating procedures.
Strategic Vision
- Develop and implement a standardized preventative maintenance strategy for all Western Canada operations, ensuring consistency across remote camps, lodges, and hospitality facilities.
- Partner with Regional Operations Directors (RODs) and Fleet Maintenance team to establish annual facility maintenance priorities, asset renewal plans, and refurbishment recommendations.
- Drive the utilization and continuous improvement of the CMMS system to support data-driven maintenance planning, asset lifecycle management, and reporting.
- Establish maintenance performance metrics, reporting dashboards, and service standards to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and protect facility assets.
- Identify opportunities to leverage technology, predictive maintenance practices, and process improvements to enhance maintenance effectiveness and efficiency.
- Ensure adequate maintenance resources, planning capabilities, and contractor support are in place to meet operational requirements across multiple sites and regions.
Leadership
- Provide direct leadership and oversight to Maintenance Planners and all field-based maintenance personnel across Western Canada.
- Coach, mentor, and develop maintenance team members to build technical capability, accountability, and succession strength.
- Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and safety requirements for employees and subcontractors.
- Influence operational leaders through recommendations and analysis to support informed maintenance and asset management decisions.
P&L
- No direct P&L ownership; however, responsible for influencing maintenance expenditures through effective planning, contractor management, and preventative maintenance practices.
- Support Regional Operations Directors in achieving maintenance and facilities-related financial targets by minimizing unplanned repairs, asset failures, and emergency expenditures.
- Monitor and analyze utility consumption, including electricity, water, and fuel usage, identifying opportunities for conservation and cost reduction.
- Review vendor pricing, service agreements, and performance metrics to ensure services are delivered competitively and provide value to the organization.
- Participate in the development of maintenance operating budgets, capital forecasts, and asset replacement recommendations.
- Provide maintenance cost reporting, trend analysis, and recommendations to operational and senior leadership teams.
Operational Efficiency
- Ensure preventative maintenance programs are planned, scheduled, and completed in accordance with established standards and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor maintenance KPIs including work order completion rates, preventative maintenance compliance, utility consumption, and contractor performance.
- Conduct regular facility audits and condition assessments to identify risks, deficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on asset reliability, maintenance effectiveness, operational consistency, and cost optimization.
- Evaluate contractor and service provider performance for services such as water hauling, wastewater management, diesel supply, waste removal, and specialized trades.
- Utilize maintenance and utility data to identify trends, prioritize resources, and support informed decision-making.

Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
College diploma or bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Facility Management, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Operations Management, or a related discipline preferred.
- Journeyman Trade Certificate (Electrician, Millwright, Plumber, HVAC) combined with progressive leadership experience will be considered equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive facility maintenance experience, including multi-site operations and leadership responsibilities.
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading maintenance teams, planners, supervisors, or technical personnel across multiple locations.
- Strong experience managing preventative maintenance programs, CMMS platforms, contractor relationships, and facility assets.
- Experience within remote workforce accommodations, hospitality, mining, oil & gas, industrial, healthcare, education, or similar multi-site environments is preferred.
- Experience participating in procurement processes, vendor selection, and RFP evaluations is considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of facility systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, power generation, and mechanical infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze maintenance and utility data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Proven leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities and support budget management.
- Advanced knowledge of CMMS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and maintenance reporting tools.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout Western Canada and work effectively in remote operational environments.
- Knowledge of applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Working Conditions
Field and Office environment with a flexible work schedule, potentially requiring work on evenings and weekends. Trained, as necessary, in required safety protocols.
