Geotechnical Supervisor
About the roleReporting to the Superintendent Geotechnical, this role is to provide supervision of the geotechnical team by ensuring that inspections and data collection requirements for the geotechnical aspects of Eleonore are completed to a high level of accuracy and efficiency. The Eleonore mine ore body is very complex and requires innovative and robust initiatives as well as understanding seismicity, ground control and rock fall risk management strategies.
This is a highly operational role requiring a strong underground presence, sound rock-mechanics judgment, effective communication with mine personnel, and the ability to make timely decisions in a dynamic and seismically active mining environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with Mine Operations, Engineering, Geology, Planning and Maintenance to identify geotechnical risks, implement effective ground-control measures, and support the safe and efficient execution of the mine plan.
Essential Duties
· Ensure geotechnical hazards are identified and rectified in a timely manner
· Able to Provide day-to-day geotechnical support to underground mining operations.
· Conduct regular underground inspections of development headings, stopes, intersections, pillars, brows, infrastructure and active mining areas
· Ensure collection of geotechnical data as per Eleonore’s procedures and hazard models are kept up to date
· Identification and communication of geotechnical hazards, including barricading of areas underground. Be able to identify changing ground conditions and provide timely recommendations to Operations and Mine Planning.
· Work closely with supervisors and operators to ensure geotechnical recommendations are practical, understood and effectively implemented.
· Ensure QA/QC checks are completed for all installed ground support systems and backfill
· Training of underground workforce in geotechnical issues
· Provide coaching and support to the geotechnical team
· Ensure collection and analysis of geotechnical monitoring data is completed in a timely manner and recommendations are issued to operations and/or planning
· Ensure resources are available to plan and manage rehabilitation
· Maintain the seismic system and ensure protocols are followed
· Investigate rockfalls and be able to provide internal and external reporting in accordance with the provincial requirements
· Be able to provide direction to the mine backfill team and ensure backfill and reticulation plans are completed in a timely manner
Training & Experience
· BSc degree in Geological or Mining Engineering, preferably with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering or Rock Mechanics.
· Minimum 5 to 10 years as a rock mechanics engineer in similar hard rock underground mining environments.
· Operating knowledge of Deswik, Leapfrog, DIPS, UNWEDGE, RS2, MAP3D, IMS software and FLAC3D
· Member of the Order of Engineer of Quebec or equivalent in other Canadian province eligible to apply in the province of Quebec
· Functionally bi-lingual in French and English, both written and spoken.
Skills and compentencies

· Strong technical writing, group presentation, and interpersonal skills including cultural sensitivity.
Working Conditions
· Schedule: 8 days of work followed by 6 days off
