Original job description

Here at DIALOG, we are passionate about design and believe it can and should meaningfully improve the wellbeing of our communities and the environment we all share.

We are a multi-disciplinary practice of architects, interior designers, urban designers and planners, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, landscape architects and sustainability experts who design for community wellbeing and urban vibrancy. We are a fun-loving bunch of big thinkers and city-shapers, who are collaborative in our approach, diverse in our perspectives, aspirational in our pursuits, and optimistic about what’s next. We’re always looking for passionate people who share our values and care as much about our communities as we do. We're proud to be a Certified B Corporation and one of Canada's Greenest Employers, committed to using our design practice as a force for good in the world.

We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer who is passionate about designing high performance building systems and leading projects from concept design through to construction. At DIALOG, you’ll work within an integrated design studio where architects, interior designers, and engineers collaborate under one roof on commercial and institutional projects spanning higher education, healthcare, workplace, public safety, transit and aviation. If you thrive in a team-oriented environment and enjoy creating innovative, sustainable solutions, this role will give you the opportunity to make a real impact on the built environment.

This is a growth position. You’ll take on increasing technical responsibility, mentor junior team members, and develop the project leadership skills that define a senior career in building mechanical design.

\nHow you'll make a difference:

· Design plumbing, drainage, fire protection, heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC)systems for commercial and institutional buildings across a variety of project types

· Lead and coordinate mechanical design from concept phase through construction documents, taking ownership of your discipline on project teams

· Collaborate with architects, interior designers, structural engineers, and electrical engineers to deliver integrated, sustainable building solutions

· Develop and maintain high quality Revit models and engineering drawings for HVAC, plumbing and drainage, and fire protection systems

· Perform load calculations, equipment selections, and system sizing using first principles engineering and industry standard software

· Integrate energy modelling, value engineering, and lifecycle costing to optimize mechanical system performance and project budgets

· Manage day to day project activities, including client meetings, presentations, and consultant coordination

· Support construction administration activities including site reviews, shop drawing review, and responding to RFIs and contractor queries

· Mentor EITs and junior designers, contributing to team development and a culture of technical excellence

· Contribute innovative mechanical solutions for green and high-performance building projects

Who you are:

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technology Diploma in a related discipline

· P.Eng. or P.L.(Eng.) licensure (or eligibility) required

· 5-10 years of experience designing HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems for commercial and institutional buildings, or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated project experience

· Proficient with BIM software (Revit preferred) and load calculation tools (Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, or similar)

· Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 90.1, National Building Code of Canada, Ontario Building Code, NFPA 13/14, and CSA B149

· Experience with schematic design, design development, detailed engineering calculations, equipment selection, and specification writing

· Familiarity with construction administration processes including site reviews, shop drawing review, and RFI responses

· Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to clients and project teams

· Energetic, proactive, and collaborative with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines

· LEED accreditation is an asset

$95,000 - $115,000 a year

At DIALOG, we believe compensation should reflect the unique talent each person brings to our team. We look at annual market data to understand how different roles are compensated in our industry, but we also recognize that your experience, skills, location, and the impact you make all play a part in shaping your total rewards. Because of this, final offers may differ from the ranges listed - we want to make sure everyone is recognized in a manner that is fair, competitive, and true to the value they bring.

This posting is for an existing vacancy.

Don’t meet every single requirement? We still encourage you to apply! We’re looking for future DIALOGers who are eager to learn, bring unique perspectives, and want to make a real difference in the world - even if your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification.
