Original job description

Here at DIALOG, we are passionate about design and believe it can and should meaningfully improve the wellbeing of our communities and the environment we all share.

We are a multi-disciplinary practice of architects, interior designers, urban designers and planners, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, landscape architects and sustainability experts who design for community wellbeing and urban vibrancy. We are a fun-loving bunch of big thinkers and city-shapers, who are collaborative in our approach, diverse in our perspectives, aspirational in our pursuits, and optimistic about what’s next. We’re always looking for passionate people who share our values and care as much about our communities as we do. We're proud to be a Certified B Corporation and one of Canada's Greenest Employers, committed to using our design practice as a force for good in the world.

We're currently looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Calgary studio. Are you a designer with demonstrated creativity, a collaborative spirit, and a thirst for excellence while striving to make a positive difference in the world. Our structural engineers don't just focus on the design of framing elements, they are involved with the entire building, working as part of a collective team to develop building designs that respond to the needs of their occupants and the surrounding community.

\nHow you’ll make a difference:

Act as a design engineer on a variety of building projects of various sizes and complexity.

Follow through all phases of projects from concept design through construction.

Work closely with our integrated team of architects, interior designers, landscape architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, as well as other partner firms.

Drive high technical quality in the delivery of design, model/drawing development, and through field review during the construction phase.

Work with DIALOG's robust Specifiers to develop construction specifications.

Mentor and nurture less experienced engineers and designers to grow their capabilities.

Build relationships of trust with clients and other outside groups.

Manage projects while working under the supervision of senior engineers, and participate in project planning.

Provide on-site field review during construction to confirm general conformance with the design documents.

Review shop drawings, respond to requests for information, and provide contract administration support for your projects.

Who you are:

Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering is required; a post-graduate degree is preferred.

5-12 years of related industry experience and registration as a P.Eng.

You have the ability to obtain Government of Canada Security Clearance.

Located in, or willing to relocate to, Calgary.

Proficiency with Revit., ETABS, SAP200, SAFE, and other structural analysis software.

An articulate and persuasive communicator that can convey complex technical concepts to non-technical firm leaders, staff and clients.

Energetic, engaged, and demonstrates initiative.

Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines and multiple tasks/projects.

LEED, Green Globes, ENV SP (or other similar sustainability) certification is considered an asset.

$85,000 - $130,000 a year

Don’t meet every single requirement? We still encourage you to apply! We’re looking for future DIALOGers who are eager to learn, bring unique perspectives, and want to make a real difference in the world - even if your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification.
