Overview

DNA

David Nairne + Associates Ltd.

David Nairne + Associates Ltd. (DNA) is a North Vancouver-based multidisciplinary consulting firm with more than 50 years of experience delivering engineering, architecture, planning, and project management services throughout BC and Northern Canada. Known for its long-standing partnerships with First Nations and Indigenous communities, DNA has helped deliver community infrastructure, housing, education, health, and cultural projects that create lasting impact where they matter most.

In 2026, DNA entered a Partnership with Dillon Consulting Limited. These proudly Canadian, employee-owned firms are excited to join forces, combining deep local relationships, technical expertise, and a shared commitment to building stronger, more resilient communities from coast to coast to coast.

Job Summary

We are seeking an Intermediate or Senior Civil Engineer, based in Vancouver with experience in municipal infrastructure (water, wastewater, stormwater, roads) and land development to join our team. Reporting to the Civil Engineering Lead, you will work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment - collaborating with planners, architects, and structural engineers under the mentorship of experienced professionals. This position offers exciting challenges, career growth, and long-term leadership opportunities.

For the right person, this position can be based in a hybrid or fully remote work environment.

Responsibilities

Primary Objectives

Deliver high-quality civil engineering solutions for municipal infrastructure and land development projects that meet client, regulatory, and community needs
Lead and contribute to projects from concept through construction, ensuring technical excellence, efficiency, and risk mitigation
Strengthen project delivery through effective coordination with internal disciplines, clients, and external partners
Support team development by mentoring junior staff and contributing to a collaborative, knowledge-sharing environment
Build and maintain strong client relationships, particularly within Indigenous, municipal, and remote community contexts
Contribute to the firm’s long-term growth through leadership, innovation, and consistent project performance

Key Responsibilities

Lead and support civil engineering design for municipal and land development projects
Mentor and support junior engineers and EITs through project work and reviews
Participate in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling
Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and reports
Coordinate with internal teams, subconsultants, and clients
Oversee contract administration and provide construction support

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
Registration as a P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)

Experience

Minimum 5+ years of professional experience, including at least 2 years of work experience in Canada
Experience with MMCD contract administration and construction inspection experience
Experience working with Indigenous communities or on projects in remote communities is a strong asset
Strong communication, technical writing, and computer skills
Valid BC driver’s license

What You Bring

Confidence working with evolving information and shifting priorities
A blend of strategic thinking, organized execution, and collaboration
Focus and adaptability in complex, fast-paced settings
Strong interpersonal skills that foster inclusion, trust, and teamwork
Ability to translate technical details into clear, meaningful discussions
Leadership that aligns teams and moves projects forward
A commitment to user-centered, practical design grounded in real-world constraints
A deep motivation to serve communities through impactful infrastructure

What Success Looks Like

Projects are delivered on time, on budget, and in alignment with quality and regulatory standards
Technical designs are practical, constructible, and responsive to real-world site and community constraints
Strong, trust-based relationships are established with clients, stakeholders, and project partners
Developing redundancy within the team for continuity
You are seen as a reliable contributor and emerging leader who can independently manage complex projects
Positive contributions to team culture through collaboration, accountability, and a commitment to shared success
Meaningful impact is achieved in the communities served, particularly in remote or underserved regions

Why Join Us

We value creativity, teamwork, and a sense of purpose. You’ll work in a supportive, energetic environment where professional development is encouraged. We offer:

A flexible 37.5-hour work week with optional hybrid work arrangements
A collaborative and social team culture
Exposure to a wide range of project types and career development paths

*Note: Many of our projects are in remote and Northern communities. Travel may involve evening, weekend, or multi-day trips to meet client needs, where returning home each evening is not possible. Applicants should be comfortable working in smaller and remote communities.

Compensation: $120,000 - $160,000

This salary range reflects a variety of considerations including experience, skills, and qualifications, as well as internal equity and business needs. Actual offers will be based on a combination of these factors.

In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer:

Flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangement options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life
Employee share purchase plan
- Dillon is 100% employee-owned, and Dillon share ownership is open to all employees. Annual share dividends have historically outperformed the market average.
Overtime Philosophy
- We recognize that there are times when extra effort is needed to meet project, client, or business demands. When additional hours are worked, compensation is typically provided through time in lieu, supporting a fair and flexible balance between work commitments and time off.
Competitive benefits package, including:
- Comprehensive health benefits
- Generous retirement savings plan with employer matching up to 5.5%
- Student loan repayment assistance
- Wellness allowance and enhanced mental health benefits
- Ample paid vacation
- Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP)
