Original job description

Overview

We are currently seeking a Junior to Intermediate Architect to join our Architectural technical group in Ottawa. In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of professionals on diverse projects across government, institutional, industrial, and community sectors, delivering integrated, high-quality architectural solutions. If you are a collaborative problem-solver with developing leadership skills and an entrepreneurial spirit, this position offers an exceptional opportunity to accelerate your career.

This position is available for our Ottawa, ON office. We offer flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangement options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

About Dillon Dillon Consulting Limited (Dillon) is a proudly Canadian, 100% employee-owned professional consulting firm specializing in planning, engineering, environmental science, and management. With over 28 offices and more than 1200 employees across Canada, we offer a wide range of services related to building and improving facilities and infrastructure, protecting the environment, and developing communities.

At Dillon, we strive to remain at the forefront of technology and innovation and thrive on interdisciplinary collaboration, empowering our people to challenge conventional thinking and build careers focused on creating a lasting impact in our communities. We are committed to ongoing professional development and celebrate the unique perspectives that each team member brings to the table.

Employee ownership is available to all Dillon team members, and over 60% of our employees own shares in Dillon. Through employee ownership, we return the financial benefit created by our project work to the very people who created that value. Because we are an employee-owned firm, your voice will be an essential part of our shared success.

Dillon has been listed as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 20 years in a row and has the distinction of being a Platinum Club member in this program.

Responsibilities

Project Coordination and Design

Assist with architectural projects for government, institutional, and industrial clients, with an emphasis on environmental infrastructure, educational, healthcare, and community/residential projects in Ontario and Canada's far north.
Conduct field investigations, condition assessments, asset management audits, space needs studies, preliminary and detailed design, contract document preparation, and contract administration.
Provide design input, drafting/BIM direction, and technical guidance to team members and junior staff.
Diversify by collaborating with internal experts across environmental science, planning, and management to deliver holistic solutions that go beyond standard engineering and architecture.
We empower our teams to automate the routine so they can focus on high-value, creative problem-solving. You will be encouraged to experiment with AI-enabled tools to push the boundaries of traditional design.

Sustainable Business Development

Assist with the identification and cultivation of new business opportunities aligned with Dillon's sustainability goals.
Support proposal preparation and the development of statements of qualification to build strong, value-driven client partnerships.
Travel to other Dillon offices upon request to collaborate, share knowledge, and support firm-wide initiatives.

Learning & Development

Commit to self-development, ongoing technical learning, and progression toward or maintenance of professional architectural registration.
Drive continuous learning by adopting data science and digital project delivery methodologies, including modern BIM workflows.
Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations (such as the OAA or RAIC) and internal committees.

Qualifications

Degree in Architecture (CACB-accredited professional degree: B.Arch or M.Arch).
Enrolled in or eligible for the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) Intern Architect Program (IAP), or a recently licensed Architect in Ontario (or eligible for registration).
Approximately 3+ years of relevant architectural design and consulting experience would be considered an asset.
Strong technical communication skills, both oral and written, combined with business acumen and developing leadership capabilities.

Experience

Working knowledge of Revit and standard office software packages (Microsoft Office Suite).
Familiarity with the Ontario Building Code and working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada.
Knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainable design principles, and building envelope detailing.
Experience or familiarity with regulations, practices, and building systems in other regions of Canada, including Canada’s far north, is considered an asset.
Proficiency or familiarity with specialized design applications, including Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite, would be considered an asset.
Practical experience leveraging AI-enabled tools within design and project delivery workflows would be considered an asset.

Compensation

$73,200 - $123,900

At Dillon, we believe in transparency. The following salary range is what we expect to offer for this position. It will be dependent on the successful applicant’s education, experience, and skills, in addition to internal equity and geographic region. Dillon reserves the right to pay outside of the posted range, contingent on factors unrelated to an applicant’s gender or other status protected by provincial and/or federal law.

In addition to a competitive base salary, Dillon offers:

Flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangement options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life

- Student loan repayment assistance
- Wellness allowance and enhanced mental health benefits

Own your success; we provide the blueprint.
