Overview

Dillon Consulting’s Integrated Mobility Discipline is seeking an experienced engineer who wants to shape market strategy, drive business growth, and mentor the next generation of technical experts. Designed for an engineer with over 10 years of experience, this role will require you to advance various traffic engineering, parking and roadway safety projects, while shaping the market strategy to expand our practice and develop the technical staff who execute it. As a key senior resource, you will serve as Project Director, Senior Project Manager, or Strategic Advisor on complex traffic operations, corridor safety reviews, traffic impact assessments, parking studies, transportation modelling initiatives, multi-modal corridor cross-section designs, and transportation master plans.

About Dillon

Unlike many consulting firms that operate as fragmented profit centres, Dillon operates as a single, unified team across our more than 25 offices with more than 1,100 staff nation-wide. Furthermore, Dillon is 100% employee-owned. Here, your entrepreneurial drive directly impacts the business, allowing you to champion technical excellence, drive change, and reap the rewards of your leadership. In addition to the compensation outlined for this role, you would also be eligible for employee ownership as a member of staff. Owners benefit from annual profit distributions and the ability to have a say in how the business evolves. Employees who demonstrate a strong understanding of the business and exhibit positive leadership while contributing to the growth and success of the company are also rewarded with the opportunity to advance to Associate and Partner ownership levels and receive performance-informed profit allocations.

The successful candidate can be based at any one of our following offices: Toronto, North York, Hamilton, Oakville, Vaughan, Guelph, Kitchener, Kingston, or Ottawa with flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangements to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

Responsibilities

Project Management & Technical Delivery

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary project teams in the delivery of complex traffic engineering, road safety, and transportation operations projects.
  • Oversee traffic impact studies, parking assessments, signal optimization, active transportation design, and warrant analyses for traffic control devices.
  • Provide specialized technical expertise, modelling insights, and senior support for overarching transportation initiatives, such as transportation master plans and regional network planning.
  • Guide multi-modal corridor planning and right-of-way allocation, supporting and reviewing cross-section designs that align with complete streets engineering and active transportation standards.
  • Direct comprehensive roadway safety initiatives, including road safety audits, network-level safety screening, high-collision location reviews, and Vision Zero / traffic calming strategies.
  • Ensure strict project quality control, schedule adherence, budget management, and risk mitigation across all project deliverables.
  • Act as the key executive representative in public consultations, stakeholder engagement programs, and agency/council presentations.

Business Development & Client Leadership

  • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities to grow our work in traffic engineering and transportation planning across the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area, Southwestern Ontario, Eastern Ontario, and/or Atlantic Canada.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to key public and private sector clients, maintaining and expanding long-term client relationships.
  • Lead proposal development and statements of qualifications for major traffic, transportation and safety opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance Dillon’s market presence and thought leadership in traffic engineering and mobility safety.

Learning & Staff Development

  • Support the growth and career development of junior and intermediate engineers, technologists, and planners, providing technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Identify and execute a growth strategy for the traffic engineering, parking and roadway safety team aligned with market opportunities.
  • Advance Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations, technical committees, and industry conferences.
  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning in emerging traffic software, micro-simulation tools, and smart mobility technologies.

Qualifications

  • A degree in civil engineering or transportation engineering.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for registration.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive professional experience in traffic or transportation engineering, preferably in the consulting industry.
  • Proven leadership, project management, and business development capabilities.

Experience

  • Proven experience managing complex traffic impact studies, road safety audits, traffic operations assessments, parking studies and/or environmental assessment (EA) transportation components.
  • Experience evaluating multi-modal corridor operations and safety to actively support and inform right-of-way allocation, complete streets initiatives, and cross-section designs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large, multi-disciplinary teams, with a minimum of six years serving in a project management capacity.
  • Exceptional skills in project management, including budget, schedule, and quality control.
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering software and analytical tools (e.g., Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS) and applicable design manuals (e.g., TAC, OTM).
  • Familiarity with travel demand modelling software (e.g., EMME, VISUM).
  • Proven track record in public and agency consultation, client advisory, and securing municipal approvals.
  • In-depth understanding of the Ontario or Atlantic Canada transportation market and established relationships with public and private sector clients.
  • Strong business development background, including proposal leadership and practice expansion.
  • Proven capability in mentoring, developing, and growing a team of consulting engineers and technical staff.
