Who We Are
Not just built for today. Building for tomorrow.
DIRTT is a global leader in industrialized construction. Our system of physical products and digital tools empowers organizations - alongside construction and design leaders - to build high-performing, adaptable interior environments.
Operating across workplace, healthcare, education, and public sector markets, DIRTT provides total design freedom and greater certainty in cost, schedule, and outcomes.
We are a highly motivated group of individuals who embrace the company’s entrepreneurial spirit. Everyone is hands-on, regardless of role. We celebrate our successes together, work hard, have fun, and treat one another with respect.
Who You Are
The Senior Systems Administrator owns DIRTT's core infrastructure platforms: compute (VMware, Hyper-V, and AWS), storage (NetApp ONTAP), and identity and access management (Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID). You are the technical authority and escalation point for these platforms across corporate and manufacturing environments, responsible for their design, reliability, security, and lifecycle.
The role also carries working network capability. You provide secondary coverage for the network function, support infrastructure projects that span systems and network, and troubleshoot issues end to end across the stack. You will mentor junior staff, own documentation and change records for your platforms, and work closely with cybersecurity, application, and vendor partners.
What You’ll Do
Compute (VMware / Hyper-V / AWS)
- Own the design, build, and operation of on-premises virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V), including host configuration, clustering, cluster networking, and live migration.
- Administer virtualization management tooling (vCenter, SCVMM) for VM provisioning, templates, and fabric management.
- Build and operate AWS compute (EC2, AMIs, instance sizing) within DIRTT's AWS landing zone.
- Manage the underlying server hardware (HP Synergy frames and compute modules), firmware, and boot-from-SAN configuration.
- Capacity-plan and right size compute resources across on-premises and cloud; track utilization, cost, and growth.
- Lead workload migrations between platforms, including on-premises to AWS, and retirement of legacy infrastructure.
Storage (NetApp ONTAP)
- Own the NetApp ONTAP environment: aggregates, SVMs, volumes, LUNs, and SMB/NFS shares.
- Manage iSCSI storage connectivity, multipathing, and storage networking for hypervisor hosts.
- Configure and monitor snapshots, SnapMirror/SnapVault replication, and storage efficiency.
- Own snapshot-based backup and recovery for NetApp data, including snapshot schedules, retention policies, and regular restore testing.
- Manage storage capacity, performance, and ONTAP upgrades.
Identity and Access Management (AD / Entra ID)
- Own on-premises Active Directory: domain controllers, DNS, DHCP, sites and services, Group Policy, and domain/forest health.
- Own Microsoft Entra ID: hybrid identity sync, conditional access, MFA, app registrations, and enterprise app SSO.
- Maintain federation and SSO services (ADFS, SAML/OIDC integrations, third-party identity providers).
- Enforce least privilege: privileged account management, role-based access, access reviews, and service account governance.
- Lead domain consolidation and identity migration work.
Network (secondary coverage)
- Provide backup coverage for the network function during absences and after-hours escalations.
- Support firewall, switching, wireless, VPN, and load balancer operations (including Citrix NetScaler) under direction of the network lead.
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues across systems and network layers, including VLANs, routing, DNS, and certificates.
- Support hybrid and cloud networking for infrastructure projects (AWS, Azure).
Operations and Leadership
- Serve as tier-3 escalation for infrastructure incidents; participate in the on-call rotation.
- Plan and execute patching, upgrades, and maintenance windows for owned platforms.
- Remediate vulnerabilities on owned platforms in partnership with cybersecurity.
- Automate administration using PowerShell and orchestration tools.
- Maintain documentation, diagrams, runbooks, and configuration records for owned platforms.
- Submit and execute changes through the change management process.
- Manage vendor and support relationships for owned platforms; provide input on hardware and software selection.
- Mentor and train junior systems administrators and helpdesk staff.
- Additional duties may be assigned that are reasonably related to the role. Responsibilities may be adjusted or reprioritized in response to evolving business needs, technology, and organizational priorities, while maintaining alignment with the overall scope, purpose, and responsibilities of the position.
