The Control Systems Technical Specialist II is a member of the Metallurgy team and is responsible for maintaining and improving the availability and integrity of the site industrial control system (ICS) infrastructure for multiple sites in the Timmins camp. This position reports to and supports the Senior Control Systems Technical Supervisor.
Purpose
This position is located at the Hoyle Pond site and supports both UG mine and Pamour ETP as part of Discovery’s Porcupine Site near Timmins, ON.

The Position

The Control Systems Technical Specialist II is a member of the Metallurgy team and is responsible for maintaining and improving the availability and integrity of the site industrial control system (ICS) infrastructure for multiple sites in the Timmins camp. This position reports to and supports the Senior Control Systems Technical Supervisor.
Purpose
- Provides technical expertise and support for all DCS, PLC & SCADA hardware, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Provides technical expertise and support for all ICS networking, telemetry, and all site OT infrastructure including the PI Historian suite of applications.
- Provides support to operations, metallurgists, maintenance, engineering, and the projects departments to safely maximize production capacity across both processing and mining facilities.
- Collaborates with control system vendors to manage minor upgrades, patching, and incorporating new products reliably into the site ICS.
- Performs any preventative or corrective maintenance required on the ICS infrastructure.
- The incumbent is also required to continuously develop and improve the site maintenance procedures to maximize the availability of the site ICS.
- Implements change requests and project support, adhering to existing site configuration standards and change management (MOC) processes.
- Has sufficient experience in mineral processing and mining facilities to understand and manage the risks associated with any temporary or permanent changes to the site industrial control system.
- Monitor the site ICS infrastructure status and resolve any issues identified.
- Implement minor temporary and permanent change requests to ICS software/application.
- Execute and/or support projects impacting on site ICS.
- Participate in site operations and maintenance pre-start and handover meetings, remaining informed of site priorities, issues, and initiatives.
- Assist with diagnosis and resolution of operations and maintenance issues related to the ICS.
- Perform internal auditing and preventative maintenance, minor upgrades, and validation of spares for ICS infrastructure.
- Support the site OT infrastructure and applications, including the PI Historian suite.
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation or Control Engineering Technology is an asset.
- At least 7 years of experience working with control systems in any related industry.
- Significant and demonstrable experience in the following systems:
- Rockwell AB PLCs - Control Studio 5000 software
- Schneider Modicon PLCs – Control Expert software
- Aveva HMI systems – Wonderware Intouch & System Platform
- Knowledge and understanding of OsiSoft PI application suite are desirable.
- Significant exposure and understanding of industrial Ethernet networks.
- Knowledge of industry best practices for industrial control systems.
- Additional qualifications in process control or control systems are desirable.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
- Computer skills and experience in preparing reports to perform and present data analysis.

Responsibilities
Maintain, monitor, troubleshoot, and improve industrial control systems and operational technology infrastructure across mining and processing sites, including PLC, DCS, SCADA, networking, and PI Historian systems. Support operations and project work, perform maintenance and minor upgrades, and implement system changes in accordance with site standards and change-management processes.
Requirements
At least seven years of experience working with control systems in a related industry is required, with demonstrable experience in Rockwell Allen-Bradley PLCs, Schneider Modicon PLCs, and Aveva HMI systems. A degree or diploma in electrical, instrumentation, or control engineering technology is an asset; knowledge of PI applications, industrial Ethernet, control-system best practices, and strong communication and reporting skills are also sought.
