Original job description
Assurance Senior | $80,000–$100,000 | Niagara Falls (In-Office)
There's a big difference between being given more responsibility and actually being trusted with it.
This Assurance Senior opportunity offers both.
You'll join one of the Niagara Region's largest independent CPA firms, working across audit and review engagements for a genuinely varied portfolio of clients.
The firm has been established for over 80 years and works with businesses across manufacturing, construction, agriculture, hospitality, professional services and the not-for-profit sector.
Rather than spending your time on one particular type of client or engagement, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of files, work directly with clients and develop the skills needed to progress towards Manager.
Why consider it:
- $80,000–$100,000 salary
- Niagara Falls location, fully in-office
- Established and respected independent CPA firm
- Varied audit and assurance engagements
- Exposure to privately held businesses and not-for-profits
- Opportunity to lead engagements from planning through completion
- Direct client contact and involvement with Partners
- Opportunity to mentor junior accountants
- Supportive team and professional development
- Clear opportunity to progress into management
What you'll be doing:
- Lead audit and review engagements from planning through completion
- Prepare and review financial statements and working papers
- Perform audit testing, risk assessments and substantive procedures
- Identify and resolve accounting and financial reporting issues
- Work directly with clients to obtain information and discuss findings
- Prepare engagement files in accordance with Canadian Auditing Standards
- Assist with compilation engagements where required
- Review work completed by junior accountants
- Support and mentor less experienced team members
- Manage engagement deadlines and communicate progress to Managers and Partners
- Gain exposure to a broad range of industries and accounting issues
- Assist with corporate tax returns and other accounting work where necessary
What they're looking for:
- 3+ years of Canadian public accounting experience
- Strong audit and assurance experience
- CPA designation or actively working towards completion
- Experience preparing or leading audit and review engagements
- Good understanding of ASPE and Canadian Auditing Standards
- Comfortable preparing financial statements and working papers
- Ability to manage engagements and communicate directly with clients
- Experience reviewing or supporting junior staff would be beneficial
- Familiarity with CaseWare and Canadian tax software would be useful
- Someone looking to continue developing their technical skills and progress towards Manager
