Senior Accountant | $85,000–$105,000 | Hamilton (Hybrid)
There’s a fairly big difference between being trusted to prepare a file and being trusted to own one.
The second is usually much more interesting.
This opportunity is with an established CPA firm in Hamilton where Senior Accountants have genuine responsibility for engagements, clients and the people working underneath them.
You’ll get a broad public accounting role across privately held and owner-managed businesses, rather than spending the year doing the same type of engagement for the same type of client.
Why consider it:
- $85,000–$105,000 salary
- Hybrid working
- Hamilton location
- Broad accounting, assurance and tax exposure
- Audit, review and compilation engagements
- Direct client responsibility
- Regular access to Managers and Partners
- Opportunity to review and mentor junior staff
- Exposure to owner-managed and entrepreneurial businesses
- Tax planning and advisory exposure
- Clear route toward Manager level
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead compilation and review engagements from start to finish
- Take a senior role on audit engagements
- Prepare and review financial statements
- Complete year-end working papers and engagement files
- Prepare corporate T2 and personal T1 returns
- Assist with trust, partnership and other tax filings where required
- Identify issues before files reach Manager or Partner review
- Communicate directly with business owners and other client contacts
- Deal with CRA queries, reviews and correspondence
- Assist Managers and Partners with tax planning matters
- Review work prepared by junior accountants and CPA students
- Provide coaching and practical guidance to less experienced staff
- Manage budgets, deadlines and workflow across your files
- Build stronger relationships with an existing client portfolio
- Become increasingly involved in the commercial side of client relationships
What they’re looking for:
- 3+ years of Canadian public accounting experience
- Strong experience across compilation and review engagements
- Previous audit exposure
- Experience preparing corporate and personal tax returns
- Strong ASPE knowledge
- Comfortable taking files through to completion
- Previous client-facing experience
- CPA designation preferred, although strong candidates progressing toward their CPA will be considered
- Experience reviewing junior staff work would be an advantage
- CaseWare experience useful
- Someone looking for greater responsibility rather than simply a change of firm
