Original job description
Be the person crews trust to keep them safe.
At DNM, safety comes first, alongside our people and our community. We’re a growing group of trades companies across Ontario, and we’re looking for a Safety Lead to be our hands-on presence in the field.
You’ll be the first call when a site supervisor needs help on the ground. You’ll run the toolbox talks, walk the sites, coach crews on safe work practices, and make sure corrective actions actually get closed, not just assigned. You’ll report to our Senior Safety Manager, who sets the program and leads our COR certification work. Your job is where that program meets the field.
What you’ll do
On site, every week
- Be the go-to person for safety questions and concerns from employees and supervisors
- Run toolbox talks and safety meetings at your assigned sites
- Walk sites, spot hazards in real time, and coach crews on doing the job safely
Inspections and follow-through
- Complete scheduled inspections using DNM’s standard forms and checklists
- Track corrective actions to completion and follow up directly with supervisors
- Help with pre-job planning, including Job Hazard Analyses and safe work procedures
When something happens
- Respond to incidents and near-misses, secure the scene, and gather the facts
- Document incidents accurately and quickly, and escalate for investigation
- Help coordinate return-to-work by keeping the injured worker, supervisor, and Senior Safety Manager connected
Training, audits, and records
- Track required training and certifications (WHMIS, working at heights, first aid, and more)
- Deliver site-specific safety orientations for new hires
- Keep site documentation audit-ready to support our COR certification
- Attend JHSC meetings for your sites and help carry action items forward
- Report site-level safety data (inspections, corrective actions, training compliance) on schedule
What you bring
- A diploma or coursework in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent hands-on experience in a trades or construction safety role
- 2–4 years in a safety-related role, ideally in construction, trades, or a multi-site environment
- Working knowledge of OHSA and basic WSIB processes
- Comfort splitting your time between job sites and a desk
- NCSO designation, or working toward it (preferred)
Bonus points for: experience in construction, HVAC, plumbing, or underground utilities; current First Aid/CPR; and a genuine interest in growing into a senior safety role.
The kind of person who thrives here
You’re approachable, the kind of person a first-year apprentice feels comfortable flagging a concern to. You’re detail-oriented with your documentation, you follow things through to the finish, and you stay calm when something goes wrong on site. You take direction well and you want to grow.
What we offer
- Benefits 100% paid by DNM: no premiums out of your pocket
- RRSP matching to help you build for the future
- Incentive program that rewards performance
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for you and your family
- Twice-yearly performance reviews, so your growth is a regular conversation
- A clear path to advance as our safety team grows
Working conditions
This role involves regular time on active job sites in varied conditions (indoor and outdoor) with appropriate PPE, including extended standing and walking and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Some flexibility is needed to respond to incidents or urgent safety matters.
Good to know
- This posting is for a current vacancy.
- We do not use artificial intelligence to screen, assess, or select applicants. Every application is reviewed by a person on our team.
