🏗️ Industry: Heavy Construction

Doddling is recruiting on behalf of one of our clients in the heavy construction industry, with an operational base in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Our client is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to oversee financial operations, project costing and payroll functions. This leadership role requires a hands-on professional who can maintain comprehensive financial oversight while leveraging Sage 100 Contractor or equivalent construction accounting software to optimize workflows and improve project profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight: Manage accounting operations, corporate budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow forecasting and annual audits.

Project Cost Tracking: Monitor and analyze project-level costs, work-in-progress (WIP) reports, equipment costing and variances against estimates.

Payroll & Compliance: Oversee union and non-union payroll processing, applicable certified payroll reporting and compliance with employment and labour laws.

Accounting Systems: Maintain data integrity, optimize accounting systems and ensure accurate financial reporting within the ERP platform.

Strategic Leadership: Advise business ownership on financial risks, tax planning strategies and capital allocation for fleet and equipment acquisitions.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role within the construction or excavation industry.
  • Software Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Sage 100 Contractor, Foundation, Viewpoint or comparable construction ERP software is required.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • Professional Designation: CPA or Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation is preferred.
