Original job description
Reports to: Director, Aircraft Systems
Type: Full-Time
The Role
Dominion Scout is Canada's first autonomous collaborative platform (ACP) - a sovereign aircraft designed autonomy-first, built to be tasked by allied platforms and to fly alongside fighter jets and multi-mission airplanes. Its design is modular, such that it carries critical mission equipment tailored for the CONOPS it is about to fly.
You work with mission system requirements, and you set the systems architecture required and connect the pieces: sensor payloads, weapon interfaces, secure datalinks, and the tactical AI autonomy built in-house by our mission autonomy team. Mission systems integration is where the demonstrator's engineering effort concentrates.
What You'll Do
Define and manage the end-to-end mission systems architecture, built for WOSA and MOSA compliance, including the interchangeable payload interface.
Integrate sensor payloads (AESA radar, IRST, EW), weapon interface suites, secure datalinks, and tactical AI autonomy kernels so the mission executes at machine speed.
Work with AI/ML software teams to integrate tactical autonomy for sensor fusion, automated target recognition (ATR), target tracking, and weapon assignment.
Align with the same teams on human-on-the-loop (HOTL) safety architecture and Rules of Engagement (ROE) enforcement logic.
Lead trade studies and interface definition for air-to-air payloads - active and passive sensors, EW suites, and air-to-air effector and missile interfaces.
Integrate Link 16 and next-generation directional datalinks for collaborative sensing and cooperative engagement.
Lead system integration testing, HIL simulation in AuraSim, and flight test campaigns that validate air-to-air mission capability.
What You Bring
Mission systems or avionics systems engineering experience on a military air platform, through integration and test.
Hands-on integration of combat sensors - radar, IRST, or EW - and an understanding of how their outputs feed fusion and targeting.
Experience defining architecture and interfaces in an open-systems environment (WOSA, MOSA, or equivalent).
Working knowledge of tactical datalinks, including Link 16, and of the constraints of operating in contested RF environments.
Experience leading integration testing - HIL, system integration labs, or flight test - and turning results into architecture changes.
Ability to work credibly with AI/ML engineers on autonomy integration and with operators on what the mission actually requires.
Nice to Have
Weapon integration experience - stores management, effector interfaces, or air-to-air missile integration.
Manned-unmanned teaming or collaborative combat aircraft (CCA) programs.
LPI/LPD communications and directional datalink design.
Sensor fusion, ATR, or tracking algorithm background.
Experience with autonomy safety architectures, HOTL design, or ROE enforcement in weapon systems.
Integrating allied-sourced sensors, datalinks, or effectors onto a new platform.
No defence background required.
