Data Analyst – Power BI & Financial Analytics
Location: Aurora, ON | Hybrid
Work Type: Permanent | Full-Time
Salary: $90,000 – $110,000 + Benefits
Vacancy: New Position
Are you a data-driven professional who enjoys transforming complex financial and operational data into meaningful business insights? Do you have strong Power BI expertise, financial acumen, and a passion for building dashboards and reporting tools that help leadership make better business decisions?
We're partnering with a growing, multi-company organization in the construction industry to recruit a Data Analyst – Power BI & Financial Analytics. Reporting directly to the CFO, this opportunity offers the chance to develop executive dashboards, improve financial reporting, analyze business performance, and support the integration of newly acquired businesses.
Why This Role
This is more than a traditional data analyst position.
As a key member of the Finance function, you'll combine financial analysis, business intelligence, and data integration to provide visibility into the performance of multiple operating companies. You'll work closely with the CFO and cross-functional teams to identify trends, explain financial results, improve reporting processes, and support strategic business decisions.
You'll also have the opportunity to build scalable Power BI reporting solutions, standardize key performance indicators, reduce manual reporting, and contribute to the organization's continued growth and acquisition integration.
If you're a technically strong analyst who understands the financial side of the business and enjoys turning data into actionable insights, this is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
The Role: Data Analyst – Power BI & Financial Analytics
Reporting to the CFO, you'll develop and maintain financial and operational reporting tools, analyze business performance, and support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning across multiple operating companies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, developing, testing, and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports for executive, financial, operational, and workforce reporting
- Analyzing income statements, balance sheets, cash flow, revenue, gross margins, operating expenses, and profitability trends
- Preparing budget-to-actual and forecast-to-actual variance analysis, identifying key drivers and recommending areas for improvement
- Supporting annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, financial modelling, and scenario analysis
- Analyzing project and job-cost performance, including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, and overhead allocations
- Identifying margin erosion, project cost overruns, and discrepancies between estimated and actual project performance
- Monitoring working capital, accounts receivable aging, days sales outstanding, inventory, and cash flow metrics
- Developing and maintaining Power BI data models, DAX measures, calculated fields, financial KPIs, and interactive drill-down reporting
- Using Power Query, Excel, and SQL to extract, clean, validate, transform, and consolidate data from multiple systems and sources
- Integrating data from ERP platforms, HRIS systems, spreadsheets, databases, and operational applications
- Establishing consistent financial reporting definitions, account mappings, KPI calculations, and reporting structures across operating companies
- Reconciling analytical reports to financial records, investigating discrepancies, and implementing data-quality controls
- Automating recurring reporting processes to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and increase reporting efficiency
- Supporting the integration of newly acquired businesses through data migration, reporting standardization, and consolidated performance analysis
- Collaborating with Finance, Operations, Sales, IT, Health and Safety, and People and Culture to identify reporting needs and develop practical analytical solutions
- Presenting findings and financial insights to management, explaining trends, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions
- Documenting reporting processes, data sources, assumptions, and calculations while maintaining data confidentiality and appropriate access controls

- Three to five years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, financial analysis, or a comparable analytical role
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports
- Strong knowledge of Power Query, DAX, data modelling, data visualization, and dashboard optimization
- Solid understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, working capital, revenue recognition, expenses, and profitability
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial modelling, and performance reporting
- Understanding of job costing, project profitability, cost allocations, and construction-related financial reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, financial modelling, and data validation
- Experience using SQL to extract, join, validate, and analyze data from multiple sources
- Ability to consolidate information across different systems, departments, and business entities
- Experience reconciling analytical reports to financial records and investigating data discrepancies
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends and explain business performance drivers
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex financial and technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing reporting priorities
- Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related discipline
