Job Description

Who you are

You are more energised by designing processes than by running them. You have enough credit risk and modelling experience to know what good looks like – and now you want to be part of building something that didn’t exist before.

You think in systems and you’re comfortable with ambiguity. You don’t need a fully-defined playbook – you’re the kind of person who helps write it. You care about building things that are rigorous and defensible, not just functional.

Purpose of the Role

Credit risk at Purpose is being rebuilt from the ground up for the AI era – and this role is part of the team doing the building. You’re not joining a finished function. You’re helping shape how it works.

We are in the process of designing and deploying an AI-augmented credit risk function: the tooling is being selected, the workflows are being architected, and the human accountability layer is being defined. You will help determine which tasks get handed to AI and which stay human, help build the models and workflows that drive portfolio decisions, and help design the governance that makes those decisions accurate and defensible. You will be measured by what gets built: the quality of the models, the soundness of the governance framework, and the effectiveness of the risk strategies that come out of the function you help design.

This role lives inside Purpose’s Innovation value and demands an Owner’s Mindset: personal accountability for outcomes that span models, strategies, and the humans who act on them.

Responsibilities: What you will do/ What you will own

Design and build the governance framework for ML models – accuracy, bias, regulatory defensibility, escalation protocols
Bring the human judgment no model can replace – and build it into how the function operates
Build risk strategies designed to improve as AI tooling matures – feedback loops, validation cadences, human checkpoints
Establish how risk intelligence becomes business decisions – the protocols that connect model outputs to action
Design the safeguards in from the start – bias, failure modes, regulatory exposure – during the build, not after
Be the human anchor in a function being redesigned around AI – ensuring accountability and strategic value scale with automation

Qualifications: What you must bring

2–5 years in credit risk, quantitative risk, or risk analytics within financial services (banking, fintech, or lending)
Demonstrated experience building or validating ML models in a credit or risk context – not just using them
Strong proficiency in Python and SQL; hands-on experience in modern data warehousing environments
Proven ability to translate complex quantitative analysis into clear recommendations for non-technical stakeholders

What will set you apart

Experience with AI/ML model governance, validation, or explainability frameworks – formal or de facto
Exposure to collections strategy optimisation, scorecard development, or offer assignment modelling
Emerging fluency with AI governance standards, prompt engineering, or agentic AI tooling in analytical workflows
Familiarity with the Canadian regulatory environment for credit risk (OSFI, FCAC)

We’re looking for someone strong on the core – credit risk experience, modelling fluency, analytical rigour – and genuinely interested in building AI-augmented processes, not just working within them.

Tell us about a model or analytical system you built or worked on – what it got wrong, how you found out, and what you did about it.

If this is the kind of problem you find genuinely interesting, we’d like to hear from you.

Why should you join us?

We are one of Canada's Top Small & Medium Employers' 2023 & 2024.
We believe in innovation and a vibrant culture - work for an innovative, people-first, financial services firm that values entrepreneurialism.
We believe in a flexible work structure – A flexible hybrid work model that empowers you to do your best work whether at home or the office.
We care about your rewards - Competitive compensation including equity program.
We care about your health – comprehensive group health and dental benefits and life insurance at little to no cost to you. We also offer a Lifestyle Spending Account for all your wellness needs.
We care about your quality of life - a flexible paid time-off policy covering vacation, sick, and mental health days.
We care about your family - Paid parental leave for eligible employees with a top-up.
We care about your future – Generous Group RRSP matching and an optional TFSA program.
We care about your development – We offer training opportunities and tuition support year-round.

Driven by Purpose is an equal employer and we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and barrier-free work environment for all employees and candidates. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply and if accommodation is required during any stage of the recruitment process, please contact any member of the People & Culture team at PeopleCultureTeam@purpose-unlimited.com. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for interviews will be contacted.

Our work philosophy is a hybrid model allowing for flexibility and collaboration.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Immigration sponsorship is not offered for this role.

We may use artificial intelligence technology to assist in screening, assessing, or selecting applicants for this position. Final hiring decisions are made by qualified human reviewers.
