Original job description

Dryve Battery Materials is developing a new approach to manufacturing lithium-ion battery cathode materials. Our technology is designed to simplify cathode material production and enable scalable, regional manufacturing.

We are looking for an Analytical Lab Technologist to join our growing technical team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

This is a hands-on laboratory position with battery cell testing as its primary focus. You will prepare electrode materials, build and test coin cells, collect experimental data, and work directly with researchers supporting battery materials development. You will also be cross trained on analytical laboratory techniques and instrumentation used to characterize our materials at our in-house lab.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist or laboratory professional who wants broad exposure to characterization and evaluation of battery materials, and R&D in a growing technology company.

What You’ll Do

Cell Testing

Prepare electrode slurries, electrolytes, and other materials for cell production.

Coat, compress, and prepare electrodes for coin cell assembly, documenting process findings.

Construct and test coin cells according to established procedures.

Maintain detailed cell-build and experimental records.

Troubleshoot cell assembly and testing equipment.

Work closely with researchers on battery materials development projects.

Analytical Laboratory

Prepare samples and perform analytical testing on battery materials.

Learn and operate in-house analytical instruments including XRD, SEM, PSD, BET, and auto-titrators.

Document test results appropriately in software and database programs.

Perform routine equipment maintenance and assist with troubleshooting.

Laboratory Operations

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory.

Follow laboratory safety procedures and hazardous-material handling requirements.

Use required PPE and respiratory protection.

Organize and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines and organizational priorities.

Support continuous improvement of laboratory processes and documentation.

What We’re Looking For

A bachelor’s degree in a science-related field: chemistry, physics, biology, earth and environmental sciences, engineering, or a related discipline.

At least one year of laboratory or research experience is preferred. This could include experience as a laboratory technician, research assistant, or similar role.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Comfortable working with your hands and performing precise laboratory tasks.

A practical, problem-solving mindset.

Ability to learn new equipment operation, techniques, and procedures.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a technical team.

Commitment to laboratory safety and good laboratory practices.

Experience With Any of the Following Is an Asset

Battery materials or lithium-ion batteries.

Coin cell assembly.

Electrochemistry.

Material characterization using techniques such as XRD, SEM, PSD, BET, or titration.

Laboratory instrumentation and equipment maintenance.

Working with powders or hazardous materials.

Programming or scripting for data analysis and reporting.

You don't need to have experience with everything listed above. We're looking for someone with a strong scientific foundation, good hands-on skills, and the curiosity and willingness to learn.

Working at Dryve

This is a fully onsite position in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, working alongside our technical and research teams.

The role involves working with battery materials, powders, chemicals, and other laboratory hazards. Appropriate PPE is required, including respiratory protection where applicable. The successful candidate must be able to safely wear a tight-fitting respirator; this may require being clean-shaven in the area covered by the respirator seal.
