Located at 7223 68 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB, this full-time position has a Monday-to-Friday schedule, 40 hours per week.

Why this role matters

The Product Application Specialist/Business Development role is split between technical support and business development, serving as a trusted technical resource while supporting customer growth and sales initiatives. The role serves as the dedicated technical expert supporting customers, Account Managers, Business Developers, Technical Inside Sales, and branch teams across Alberta and Saskatchewan. This role is responsible for providing application expertise, troubleshooting, commissioning support, technical training, and customer solutions that help expand our Automation &Controls business while delivering an exceptional customer experience. The role also supports business development initiatives by identifying new customer opportunities, expanding market presence, and contributing to sales growth across the region.

What To Expect In The Role

Technical Support & Application Expertise

Serve as the primary technical resource for Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Provide application support, troubleshooting, product selection guidance, and commissioning assistance.
Research and develop solutions that address customer application requirements.
Support product setup, configuration, testing, and validation activities.
Conduct bench testing, troubleshooting, and RMA support as required.
Stay current on automation, controls, instrumentation, and process measurement technologies.

Customer & Project Support

Build and maintain positive relationships with customers through exceptional service and technical expertise.
Support customers throughout the project lifecycle, including specification, implementation, commissioning, and post-project follow-up.
Participate in customer meetings virtually and onsite.
Work directly with customers to gather information required for technical proposals and solutions.
Travel throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan to provide onsite technical support when required.

Business Development

Proactively identify and engage potential new customers to grow Automation & Controls sales opportunities across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Partner with Account Managers and Business Developers to develop and execute account growth strategies.
Identify opportunities to expand market share within existing and prospective customer accounts.
Conduct customer visits to uncover application challenges, project opportunities, and emerging business needs.
Promote E.B. Horsman's Automation & Controls solutions through networking, customer outreach, supplier engagement, and industry events.
Support the development of sales pipelines by generating and qualifying leads for the sales team.

Sales & Quotation Support

Partner with Account Managers and Business Developers on customer visits to provide technical expertise and application support.
Assist with technical quotations, validating product specifications, and confirming part numbers.
Support Technical Inside Sales with product inquiries, pricing requests, and customer opportunities.
Develop solutions that expand product adoption within existing customer accounts.
Identify and forward sales opportunities and leads to Account Managers and Business Developers.

Training & Knowledge Sharing

Deliver technical presentations, Lunch & Learn sessions, and customer training events.
Lead Automation Labs and technical demonstrations.
Provide internal technical training and product knowledge support.
Partner with suppliers and manufacturer representatives to deliver customer education and training initiatives.

Quality & Internal Collaboration

Work closely with Business Development, Technical Inside Sales, and branch teams to deliver customer solutions.
Support quality initiatives by identifying, documenting, and helping resolve product or application concerns.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by sharing technical knowledge and best practices across the organization.

Ideal Candidate Profile

5+ years of experience in industrial automation, instrumentation, process control, electrical distribution, or related industry.
Strong knowledge of industrial automation, instrumentation, process measurement, control products, and related technologies.
Technical diploma, apprenticeship, certification, or post-secondary education in Automation, Instrumentation, Electrical, Engineering Technology, or a related field is an asset.
Sales experience supporting technical quotations and industrial projects is considered a strong asset.
Experience providing technical support, field service, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer-focused solutions.
Experience supporting industrial customers, contractors, engineering firms, and key accounts.
Experience in business development within a technical or industrial environment is considered an asset
Strong computer skills with proficiency in ERP, CRM, Microsoft 365, and the ability to learn new software platforms.
Strong presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.
