Guided by our vision of a community where every person has the opportunity to live with dignity, belonging, and purpose, we deliver person-led, collaborative, and evidence-informed services that strengthen individuals, families, and communities. Rooted in our core values of courage, compassion, connection, and commitment, we are dedicated to creating lasting opportunities and meaningful community impact.
Position Summary
The Controller provides leadership and oversight of e4c’s accounting and financial operations, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and consistency of financial information across programs, funding agreements, capital assets, mortgages, and funds administered on behalf of others.
The role oversees general ledger management, financial close, reporting, and annual audits while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, funding agreements, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. The Controller provides financial guidance to organizational leadership, the Board, program leaders, and funders; leads and develops the Finance team; and strengthens financial controls, systems, and processes. This includes supporting the transition to NetSuite as e4c’s core ERP platform to improve financial reporting, operational efficiency, and long-term organizational sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and maintenance of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO), ensuring appropriate accounting treatment for contributions, funds, and capital assets.
- Produce financial reporting packages for executive leadership, the Board, and its Finance and Audit Committee, including meaningful variance analysis and financial insights; lead annual external audits and address audit findings.
- Oversee contribution and deferred revenue accounting, funder-specific financial reporting, claims, and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with funding agreements, contribution conditions, and repayment requirements.
- Manage regulatory and financial reporting requirements, including the annual T3010 charity return, GST filings and rebate claims, administration fee allocations, replacement reserves, and fiscal agent responsibilities.
- Lead annual operating and capital budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and liquidity monitoring; provide budget-to-actual analysis, support funding proposals, and develop financial models for program and organizational decisions.
- Establish and maintain internal controls, finance policies, and procedures across cash handling, procurement, payables, payroll interfaces, expense reimbursements, approval authorities, and program sites.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, banking, corporate credit cards, participant trust accounting, debt servicing, insurance renewals, and the financial review of contracts.
- Lead finance systems and process improvements following the transition to NetSuite, strengthening financial close, reporting, accuracy, timeliness, and operational efficiency.
- Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team through clear performance expectations, work allocation, cross-training, recruitment, onboarding, and professional development while modelling e4c’s values of courage, compassion, connection, and commitment.
