- Interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications to plan methods or sequences of operation
- Operate heavy equipment
- Read blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
- Use International Organization for Standardization (ISO) pattern joystick controls
- Use Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) controls pattern
- Clean and lubricate equipment and refill equipment tanks
- Measure distance, volume, length and weight
- Operate computer controlled equipment
- Understand the purpose, proper usgage and information found on material safety data sheets (MSDS)
- Complete onboard and other logs
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment
- Prepare accident reports
- Secure special attachments to equipment
- Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment
- Operate two-way radios and other communication equipment
- Perform minor repairs to equipment

Responsibilities
Operate a range of heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, bulldozers, rollers, forklifts, and dump trucks, using plans and specifications to determine work methods. Inspect, clean, lubricate, and perform minor repairs on equipment; maintain logs and reports; and use GPS, radios, and hydraulic systems as needed.
Requirements
Requires an other trades certificate or diploma and 2 to less than 3 years of experience. Applicants need a valid driver's licence and must be able to perform physically demanding outdoor work; steel-toed boots, a hard hat, safety glasses, a safety vest, and gloves are required.
