Tasks
- Interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications to plan methods or sequences of operation
- Operate heavy equipment
- Read blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
- Use International Organization for Standardization (ISO) pattern joystick controls
- Use Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) controls pattern
- Clean and lubricate equipment and refill equipment tanks
- Measure distance, volume, length and weight
- Operate computer controlled equipment
- Understand the purpose, proper usgage and information found on material safety data sheets (MSDS)
- Complete onboard and other logs
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment
- Prepare accident reports
- Secure special attachments to equipment
- Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment
- Operate two-way radios and other communication equipment
- Perform minor repairs to equipment
- Operate hydraulic pumping systems

Responsibilities
Operate a variety of heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, and bulldozers while interpreting blueprints and specifications. Perform routine equipment maintenance, conduct pre-operational checks, and ensure safety compliance on site.
Requirements
Requires a trade certificate or diploma and 2 to 3 years of experience operating heavy machinery. Must possess a valid driver's licence and be able to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments.
