Original job description

People Operations Generalist
Job Type: Full-Time Permanent
Work Location: Wallenstein, ON (Hybrid)
Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000

Earthscape Play builds playgrounds that invite people into imagination, movement, and connection. We think work should feel like that too. We’re growing and we’re investing in the infrastructure and environment that supports our people just as intentionally as we invest in the quality of what we build.

We're looking for the operational backbone of our People & Performance team. Someone who thrives on building bulletproof people foundations, protecting our culture through clear risk management, and making policy and compliance feel simple, human, and seamless.

As our People Operations Generalist, you will own our operational people systems, health and safety environment, total rewards administration, and workplace compliance, ensuring our team is safe, supported, and set up for long-term operational success.

What You’ll Own

People Infrastructure, Systems & Compliance

Maintain up-to-date documentation, processes, and standards that align with provincial and federal legislation.
Keep our employee records organized and accurate across our systems (Breezy ATS, Acumatica ERP) and play a key role in our upcoming 2027 HRIS implementation.
Support employee immigration processes, including LMIA applications and Permanent Residency (PR) support.

Health, Safety & Risk Mitigation

Lead Health & Safety reporting, Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) initiatives, accessibility, and workplace safety programs to reduce risk across all locations.
Oversee WSIB/claims case management, return-to-work programs, and medical leaves of absence with care and efficiency.

Total Rewards & Benefits Administration

Administer our extended health and dental benefits programs, serving as the go-to contact for team questions.
Administer market compensation practices, ensuring our total rewards structure remains competitive, consistent, transparent, and fair.

Employee Relations & Culture Listening

Act as a trusted, neutral point of contact for employees; triage concerns, document issues, guide leaders, and ensure consistent, fair follow-through.
Administer engagement surveys, pulse checks, and exit interviews. Notice patterns, translate data into clear thematic insights, and bring actionable themes to leadership.

Operational Talent & Performance Support

Handle logistics behind the scenes such as interview scheduling, offer letter generation, background checks, system access setup, and new hire paperwork.
Maintain performance tools, competency models, and appraisal workflows; support managers through standard performance development plans and benchmark tracking with empathy and clarity.

What You Bring (Knowledge & Experience)

5+ years in progressive HR/People roles: You have proven experience managing core HR operations, employee relations, and administrative systems within a growing organization.
Health & Safety Leadership: You have active experience participating in or co-chairing a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), leading workplace inspections, and managing incident reporting/WSIB claims.
Deep Legislative Expertise: You are well-versed in Ontario employment standards and legislation, specifically the Employment Standards Act (ESA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and Human Rights Code.
Manufacturing or Trades Experience (Strong Asset): Experience working within a manufacturing, production, shop, or skilled trades environment is a major bonus. You understand the unique safety risks, operational rhythms, and culture of a hands-on, build-focused workplace.
CHRP / CHRL designation: Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader designation (or working toward it) is considered a strong asset.

What Makes You Thrive

You love clarity and structure: You see chaotic data or outdated policies and naturally want to streamline them into clean, organized, human-centered systems.
You’re a trusted secret-keeper: You handle sensitive employee situations, confidential data, and performance matters with incredible discretion, empathy, and fairness.
You’re proactive about safety and risk: You don't wait for an incident to fix a process; you look around corners to make sure our workplace is safe and legally sound.
You translate "HR speak" into plain English: You can take a complex legislative update or benefit policy and explain it to a busy manager in two clear bullet points.
You balance compliance with care: You understand that policies are there to support people, not hinder them, and you know how to hold a line on standards while maintaining high trust.

What’s in it for you?

This job will offer you the opportunity to work on some of North America’s most innovative playground projects. The pace, challenges and problem-solving opportunities will mean you are never bored. You will have the chance to develop and refine a wide variety of skills in our rapidly growing business. Your colleagues are dynamic, and highly skilled. They have an impressive range of backgrounds, skills and expertise.

We believe in great compensation for great employees, and we reward our staff with a combination of:

Profit sharing and performance bonuses
Employee share ownership opportunities (ESOP) after 1 year of service
Six-week sabbatical after 14,000 hours worked
Tuition reimbursement
Extended health and dental benefits
Flex time with options to work remotely to support work-life balance
Company events
Casual dress code

Accommodation: We are committed to treating all people in a way that respects their dignity and independence. Should you require any accommodation during the recruitment process or otherwise, please notify us of this when you apply, and we will work with you to meet your accessibility needs.

Pre-employment checks: As part of our selection process, successful candidates may be required to consent to background checks relevant to the role, prior to receiving a job offer. These could include: work references, education and credential confirmation, employment verification, identity check, criminal offense and driver’s license record.

At Earthscape Play, we are committed to building an environment where everyone feels included, valued, and heard. Diversity, inclusion, and belonging are an important part of our everyday work, and it is our belief that they enable us to reach our goal of bringing incredible play spaces to life. We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous Peoples, racialized people, people with disabilities, people from gender and sexually diverse communities and/or people with intersectional identities
