  • Support safe ambulation and transfers, including the use of mobility aids and mechanical lifts.
  • Observe, monitor, and document changes in residents' health or behavior, and promptly report to nursing or supervisory staff.
  • Assist with the administration of scheduled medications in accordance with care plans and Medication Administration Records (MAR), where permitted by policy.
  • Promote resident autonomy by encouraging participation in daily routines and decision-making when possible.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with residents through active listening, meaningful conversation, and engagement in leisure activities.

Home Support & Environmental Care

  • Assist with meal service, including light meal and snack preparation (particularly during weekends or cook absences), feeding assistance, and meal setup as needed.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, safe environment (e.g., making beds, laundry, tidying rooms, replenishing supplies).
  • Support infection prevention and control practices, including appropriate use of PPE and adherence to hygiene protocols.

Team Collaboration & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care activities, incidents, and health observations using established charting tools.
  • Participate in shift reports, team meetings, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Follow organizational policies, safety protocols, and emergency response procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to remain current with best practices and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Alberta Health Care Aide Certificate from a recognized program.
  • Active status on the Alberta HCA Directory (mandatory).
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance (completed within the last 6 months).
  • Experience working in a group home, long-term care, or disability support setting is considered an asset.
  • Comfortable with manual handling procedures and mobility aids.
  • Ability to work Evening shift: 3pm to 11pm

Core Competencies

  • Compassionate Care: Demonstrated empathy, patience, and respect for residents’ diverse needs and experiences.
  • Effective Communication: Strong ability to listen, respond appropriately, and communicate clearly with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
