Original job description

Company Description

Echo Money is building the financial infrastructure layer for the global internet economy. By combining Banking-as-a-Service capabilities with stablecoin payment rails, the company enables cross-border transfers at significantly lower cost and higher speed than traditional systems. Echo Money focuses on modernizing international payments for businesses that need secure, compliant, and scalable solutions. Team members work at the intersection of finance and technology, shaping how money moves across borders in digital-first markets.

Role overview

Echo Money is appointing a Director – North America (Canada) to strengthen our governance, regulatory oversight and presence in North America.

You will work closely with the founders and management team, bringing senior judgement on compliance, banking relationships and strategy as we scale.

Key responsibilities

Serve as a director of the company and support corporate and regulatory filings
Attend board meetings (quarterly and ad hoc); review and approve key decisions, resolutions and filings
Oversee the AML/ATF compliance program: review the Compliance Officer’s reports, risk assessment and periodic effectiveness reviews
Act as a North American point of contact for regulators, banks and auditors when needed
Support bank and partner due diligence, including director KYC and interviews
Offer strategic advice and introductions within the North American payments ecosystem
Uphold fiduciary duties and disclose any conflicts of interest

Required qualifications

8–10+ years in fintech, payments, banking or money transfer, including senior management or board-level experience
Background in cross-border payments: remittances, B2B payments, FX or payouts
Strong understanding of Canadian AML/ATF obligations (PCMLTFA, FINTRAC) and/or US equivalents (BSA, FinCEN)
Governance or compliance-oversight experience, ideally as a director or officer of a regulated financial entity
Clean record; able to pass the criminal record, credit and background checks required by regulators, banks and partners
Sound judgement, integrity and clear communication with regulators and banking partners
Must be a Canadian or US citizen or permanent resident. We are unable to sponsor work visas for this role
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, law, economics or a related field, or equivalent experience

Preferred qualifications

Prior director role at a licensed MSB, PSP, EMI or money transmitter
Network across Canadian and US banks, PSPs and regulators
Familiarity with stablecoin and digital-asset regulation in Canada
CAMS, ICD.D, CPA, MBA or a similar professional qualification
