The Position:
The Mechanical Production Supervisor will provide leadership and coordination of the Mechanical Production department. Work directly with the Project Procurement Lead, Electrical Shop, and Engineering teams to ensure production timeline and goals are met. Work with the Tool Room personnel to deliver the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Technical
- Actively participate in design review meetings to identify project design/build risks
- Ensure all mechanical assemblies are built to customer product specifications
- Recognize problems, initiate action, assist in problem solving and evaluate results on major issue
- Ensure attainment of business objectives and production schedules while making sure product standards meet or exceed our customers’ expectations
- Provide proper tools and materials for specific department processes
- Maintain and control department tools and materials inventory.
- Assist with all relevant non-conformances, ensuring timely closure, effective identification of root cause and corrective actions
- Consult with Tool Room leadership to inform and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures within the company’s continuous improvement programs
- Other duties as assigned
Leadership
- Supervise, direct, teach, assist and advise MTBI and MTBI apprentices
- Ensure that project teams have maintained the shop floor to the 5S standard that has been set, while bringing forward and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure project portfolio is executed to the current scope and schedule
- Ensure that projects resource requirements are met and escalated to Tool Room leadership as necessary
- Promote positive relations between departments and with partners, customers, and vendors
- Escalate any risks to schedule in a timely manner
- Recommend and administer policies and procedures to enhance operations which support continuous improvement initiatives
- Actively participate in the hiring process with the Talent Acquisition team
- Enforce Eclipse policies throughout the department including Human Resources, Safety and Environmental
- Ensure concepts meet Eclipse Automation quality, safety and reliability standards
- Adhere to the Eclipse Project Operating Policy
- Promote Personal Development and Safe work practices, working environment and improving department operations and productivity
- Act as a safety leader to drive improvements in health and safety culture at Eclipse
- Respond to worker H&S concerns and correct substandard safety conditions/practices, including enforcement (as necessary)
- Follow all safety rules prescribed by H&S legislation/company requirements
- Consult and cooperate with the Joint Health and Safety Committee, and cooperate with others carrying out H&S duties, including entering H&S incidents in a timely manner
- Maintain good corporate citizen role in support of the Eclipse corporate Vision and confidentiality ensuring that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Eclipse Automation Inc. Conduct Code
Project Execution
- Participate in project kick-off meetings and provide support for PM to ensure a successful kick-off process
- Correctly follow the escalation policy when project milestones are at risk
- Ensure that Company Quality Standards are followed
- Coordinate with the Project Procurement Lead to establish the items of priority for their project portfolio
- Monitor open issues and resolve in a timely manner and escalate to the appropriate departments when a resolution cannot be determined
- Work requires flexible hours to get a project completed and work a flexible schedule
- Foster the development of a culture reflective of the core values of the business
Travel:
- Expectation of travel is 15% of time, however, may be exceeded in exceptional circumstances to meet organizational needs
What We’re Looking For:
Education:
- Has successfully completed a certificate of Qualification for MTBI, Industrial Mechanical Millwright, Tool and Die Maker or General Machinist or relative experience
- Has completed a college diploma, CEGEP, vocational or technical training.
- Computer skills needed in MS Office, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and understanding database operations.
Experience:
- 10 years’ work experience in the custom automation industry.
- Experience in machine building for automation and troubleshooting
- Job task planning and organizing
- Working in a team environment
