Job Title: Project Engineering Manager (Automation)

Compensation: $150,000 - $190,000

The Position:
The Project Engineering Manager (Automation) is responsible for leading and coordinating the functions of the Project Engineering department within the Automation business unit. This role focuses on developing and implementing engineering policies and procedures while collaborating with Applications, Project Management, Mechanical & Controls Engineering, and Manufacturing teams. The manager ensures profitability and successful project execution in line with the Eclipse Vision and Entrepreneurial Culture.
What You'll Do Here:
Project Engineering:
- Lead and manage the Project Engineering function within the Automation business unit, providing direction to senior technical staff.
- Ensure contractual communication is clear and fully understood, facilitating smooth handover of information from the PMO to the engineering team using the ‘Open Book Project Communication’ method.
- Organize and prioritize project engineering activities, ensuring timely delivery of project documents and milestones.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure contract deliverables are met and project designs are approved prior to manufacturing.
- Develop and maintain department workflows and strategies to support growth, innovation, and technical excellence within the team.
- Regularly assess department performance against business goals and implement KPIs to drive continuous improvement.
- Stay updated on industry trends, design standards, and technological advancements to enhance the department's innovation capacity.
- Manage department budgets, ensuring funds are allocated effectively to maintain profitability.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to assess staffing needs and ensure the department has the right skillsets to handle future project demands.
- Under the direction of senior leadership, establish and implement short and long term departmental goals and objectives that support overall corporate objectives
- Understand the business needs and prioritize efforts and strategy accordingly
- Conduct interviews as needed for direct reporting hires to ensure proper skillsets are being met
Leadership:
- Foster positive relationships within the department and with other teams, promoting a collaborative working environment.
- Conduct regular meetings with direct reports to review project status, team performance, and future planning.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and support career growth
- Oversee the performance review process for all direct reports, ensuring alignment with departmental and organizational goals.
- Communicate expectations clearly to team members, delegate tasks effectively, and drive process improvements to increase efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to industry quality, safety, and reliability standards within the Automation industry.
- Ensure concepts meet Eclipse Automation and customer expectations
- Foster the development of a culture reflective of the core values of the business
Project Execution:
- Ensure all project milestones are met and provide regular updates on project status to the Director of Engineering.
- Maintain a high standard of professional written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as a corporate citizen, upholding Eclipse Automation’s ethical standards and Project Operating Policy.
Travel:
- Expectation of travel to Eclipse locations is less than 20% of time, however may be exceeded in exceptional circumstances to meet organizational needs
What We're Looking For:
Education:
- University Degree Engineering / Robotics Automation
- Ontario P.Eng license is preferred, eligibility for P.Eng license is required
- Formal project management training through PMI or equivalent, PMP is an asset
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in the automation industry
- 5+ years of increasing responsibility in an engineering capacity
- Familiarity with applicable codes/standards from various regions (Canada, US, Europe),
- Proven leadership skills, providing direct employee oversight and coaching
- Computer skills required, including MS Office, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and ERP Software
