The Opportunity
Edison Engineers is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer / Project Manager to lead electrical consulting projects for existing residential and condominium buildings.
Combining technical engineering, project management, and client service, you will lead projects from investigation and condition assessment through design, tendering, contract administration, and construction. You will prepare and review technical deliverables, serve as the primary client contact, and deliver quality work on schedule and within budget.
A key focus is sustainability and electrification, including feasibility studies, capacity assessments, and design support for EV charging and heat-pump adoption. You will also lead retrofits and replacements involving power distribution, emergency power, fire alarm and voice communication, access control, and life-safety systems.
You will also help grow Edison’s electrical services and identify new ways to support our established condominium and property-management clients.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering and Consulting
- Investigate conditions, deficiencies, failures, and performance concerns involving power distribution, emergency generators, lighting, fire alarm and voice communication, heat tracing, electric snow-melting, and access control systems.
- Assess electrical capacity for EV charging, heat pumps, and generator upgrades; develop phased EV strategies covering metering, billing, ownership, expansion, and building-specific needs.
- Design and support electrical service, site and garage lighting, equipment replacement, energy-efficiency, and other building-renewal projects.
- Complete load, demand, voltage-drop, equipment-sizing, and related analyses, and develop practical recommendations that balance safety, compliance, constructability, lifecycle cost, efficiency, operations, resident disruption, and probable construction cost.
- Prepare condition assessments, feasibility studies, calculations, drawings, specifications, tender documents, and other technical deliverables.
- Coordinate electrical work with building envelope, structural, mechanical, architectural, and other disciplines.
- Seal engineering documents within your area of professional competence.
Project Management
- Lead electrical engineering projects from planning through construction and closeout.
- Define scope, work plans, schedules, fees, budgets, risks, and resources; review deliverables for technical quality and alignment with client requirements.
- Guide and mentor Project Associates and junior staff in design, equipment selection, specifications, tendering, contract administration, and construction review.
- Coordinate clients, contractors, architects, and consultants, resolve project challenges, and maintain clear communication through delivery.
Client Relationships and Practice Development
- Advise condominium boards, property managers, and building owners, translating complex technical issues into clear, practical guidance.
- Build strong client relationships through responsiveness, sound judgment, and reliable follow-through; identify additional assessment, upgrade, and capital-planning needs.
- Improve internal processes, templates, technical resources, and project-delivery practices while collaborating with Edison’s multidisciplinary teams.
- Develop relationships with contractors, utilities, suppliers, EV charging providers, and other industry partners.
- Support proposals, presentations, educational content, and business development, and mentor developing professionals as the electrical team grows.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution and registration as a Professional Engineer in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario.
- Approximately five or more years of electrical engineering and project-management experience in existing multi-unit, commercial, or institutional buildings; condominium experience is a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge of building electrical systems, including power distribution, emergency power, fire alarm and voice communication, heat tracing, electric snow-melting, access control, and EV charging.
- Demonstrated ability to manage electrical projects from investigation and design through tendering, construction, and closeout.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Ontario Building Code, CSA standards, fire and life-safety requirements, utility requirements, ESA processes, and permitting.
- Experience preparing reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, tender packages, and construction documentation.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and proficiency with Microsoft Office; electrical analysis software experience is an asset.
- Strong technical judgment, communication, and project-management skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions and manage scope, fees, schedules, budgets, risks, and client expectations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver’s licence, reliable vehicle, and ability to safely access electrical rooms, rooftops, parking garages, mechanical spaces, and other project areas.
