Collections Specialist

📍 Toronto | Reporting to: Country Lead

About Elect Capital

Elect Capital is changing how SMEs access funding. We provide fast, flexible working capital loans, business loans, and merchant cash advances - no red tape, no slow decisions. Live across the UK, Australia, Canada, and the US, and scaling fast, we give SMEs the speed and flexibility traditional lenders can't.

🎯 Our Mission

We exist to give SMEs the capital and confidence to grow - fast, fair, and friction-free. Every ambitious business deserves a real shot at growth, not months of paperwork. We've built lending for speed, without cutting corners on fairness. When SMEs win, we win.

The Role

You'll own the collections lifecycle on our small-business lending portfolio, from the first missed payment through to legal escalation. You'll work directly with business owners and guarantors to get accounts back on track and manage the agencies, legal counsel and payment processors who support recovery. Collections is a core function here, so your work hits cash collected directly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial accounts from early arrears through late-stage recovery, maximizing cash collected
  • Negotiate repayment plans and settlements with business owners and guarantors, within your delegated authority
  • Use portfolio data and repayment trends to prioritize your caseload and flag emerging risk
  • Work with payment processors to investigate failed payments and resolve processing issues
  • Manage external collection agencies and legal partners: track performance, keep handoffs clean and follow up
  • Research distressed or unresponsive merchants (account reviews, business research, permitted tracing tools) to find recovery options
  • Prepare account histories and evidence for demand letters, settlements and legal proceedings
  • Keep accurate case notes and report on arrears, collections, settlements and recoveries

🔍 What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years in collections or commercial debt recovery, including hands-on work on complex, late-stage accounts and a track record of collecting balances over $30K
  • Proven success negotiating repayments and settlements, including disputes, with business owners or guarantors
  • Experience working with third-party agencies, legal counsel, vendors or payment processors
  • Strong analytical skills: you can read portfolio reports and use them to decide where to focus
  • Clear written and verbal communication, good judgment, and tight documentation habits
  • Confidence managing a changing caseload independently while following applicable Canadian collections requirements

Bonus

  • Merchant cash advance (MCA), revenue-based financing or other small-business credit experience
  • Personal credit collections experience on larger balances (e.g. auto)
  • French language skills
  • Experience preparing legal recovery packages or using collections reporting tools

Our Offer

  • Salary range: $50,000 - $70,000 CAD + bonus
  • Health & dental with Manulife
  • Life insurance with Allianz
  • Virtual health with Dialogue
  • Retirement savings via Wealthsimple Group RRSP
  • Luxury offices in downtown financial core - First Canadian Place
  • Barista onsite all day for all your coffee needs
  • Rooftop loft community space & outdoor space to decompress
