AI Engineer Intern – Creative Innovations (Character Pipelines)

Role Overview

The Creative Innovations team at Electronic Arts develops core pipeline technologies that power character deformation, facial rigging, and digital likeness across global franchises. As an AI Engineer Intern embedded with our character pipeline group, you will focus on developing, prototyping, and integrating machine learning models and neural networks directly into production animation workflows. You will collaborate with software engineers, technical artists, and AI scientists to build practical, intelligent tools that automate complex character deformation and enhance artist workflows.

What You Will Do

You will design, train, and evaluate machine learning models tailored for 3D character deformation and automated facial performance. Rather than working solely on ingestion infrastructure, you will write application code and train neural networks using both raw 3D capture data that requires cleaning and high-fidelity, artist-tuned reference assets. You will build and refine models that predict blendshapes, create mesh deformations, and automate landmark tracking, ensuring that model predictions align with artist intent and production quality standards.

In addition to core model development, you will integrate these AI systems into our modern character pipeline stack. You will write clean, production-quality Python code, using USD schemas to connect training environments with digital content creation software such as Autodesk Maya and Houdini. You will package and deploy your code and model environments using Docker to ensure execution across local workstations and cloud platforms (such as Amazon Web Services services). You will also use and experiment with AI developer agents to accelerate coding, testing, and pipeline automation tasks.

What You Bring

You are enrolled in a bachelors degree program in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Graphics, or a related technical discipline.
You have practical programming skills in Python and a solid conceptual and applied foundation in machine learning, specifically around deep learning and neural network architectures.
Experience training, evaluating, and fine-tuning models using frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow is necessary , along with a practical approach to handling both noisy raw data and curated datasets.
You have a working knowledge of fundamental 3D geometry concepts, linear algebra, and coordinate transformations as they apply to mesh topology and deformation.
Practical experience containerizing applications with Docker and collaborating through Git and modern version control platforms is required.
Familiarity with USD, digital content creation APIs in Maya or Houdini, model inference optimization, or the effective prompting and use of AI coding agents will help you ramp up quickly.
Most importantly, you bring clear technical communication and a genuine enthusiasm for applying artificial intelligence to creative character technology.

You must be available for a full-time paid internship in the summer of 2027.

At this time, we are considering Undergrad students who will be enrolled in an accredited degree program in the summer of 2027, slated to graduate no earlier than December 2027. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis during the 16-week internship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Pay Transparency - North America

British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$65,000 - $70,000 CAD
