As a Technical Director, you will lead the technical strategy for capturing research data from EA game sources. You will define how dedicated title streams, shared instrumentation, capture builds, and downstream data systems work together as a unified capability for Research & Engineering.

You will be responsible for driving the architecture, standards, priorities, and technical outcomes of the Game Data Capture team. You will coordinate across researchers, ML Data Engineers, title teams, central infrastructure, security, and legal partners while remaining hands-on in the most consequential technical decisions.

This is a hybrid role, working three days per week in Redwood City, Montreal, or Vancouver.

You will report to the Lead Technical Director.

Responsibilities

You will define the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for a unified cross-title game-data capture capability.
You will establish standards for supported modalities, synchronization, coordinate systems, schemas, build identity, provenance, validation, and platform performance.
You will determine which capabilities belong in the shared capture platform and which require title-specific integration.
You will prioritize title onboarding and research requests based on technical feasibility, research value, dependencies, and long-term platform leverage.
You will lead architecture and design reviews for capture SDKs, title adapters, build automation, and interfaces with central data infrastructure.
You will partner with title technical leaders to secure the expertise, access, and production safeguards needed to instrument complex game codebases.
You will define requirements for dedicated Perforce streams, automated merges, reproducible builds, CI/CD, deployment, and capture validation.
You will establish clear technical acceptance criteria for certified raw capture sessions and ensure limitations are documented.
You will identify repeated title-specific needs and guide the team toward maintainable shared solutions.
You will mentor engineers, communicate technical direction, resolve cross-team decisions, and represent Game Data Capture to research and technology leadership.

Qualifications

12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership in AAA games, game engines, real-time simulation, or related systems
Experience setting architecture and technical direction across multiple engineering teams or products
Expertise in C++ and strong working knowledge of large, multithreaded game-engine codebases
Broad experience with engine systems such as rendering, simulation, gameplay, animation, physics, audio, tools, or build pipelines
Experience integrating technology across actively developed branches, platforms, or title codebases
Experience with Perforce, complex build systems, CI/CD, and release or integration workflows
Experience translating research or product requirements into platform strategy and executable technical plans
Experience balancing rapid experimentation with security, performance, stability, maintainability, and partner-team constraints

Compensation And Benefits

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).

PAY RANGES

British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$169,500 - $242,600 CAD

Pay is just one part of the overall compensation at EA.

For Canada, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and other incentive programs.
