EA Digital Platform : Gameplay Services

The EA Digital Platform provides shared technology and services that help game teams tap into the power of the global EA ecosystem. By building reusable capabilities that can be integrated across games, we enable our studios to focus on what they do best, creating incredible experiences for players.

Within Gameplay Services, we build and operate online capabilities used across EA games, including Stats & Leaderboards.

The Challenge Ahead

Stats & Leaderboards touches player experiences across EA's portfolio. Our technology helps games capture player statistics, track progress and accomplishments, compare players and friends, and power leaderboard experiences.

Behind those experiences are highly available, distributed backend systems designed to process and serve player data at scale.

As a Software Engineer Intern, you'll work alongside experienced engineers to build and improve these production services. You'll get hands-on experience solving real engineering problems while contributing to software that improves player experiences across EA games. You will report to a Technical Director on the team.

What You'll Do

Design and implement backend features using Java and Spring Boot.
Build and evolve service interfaces using gRPC and Protocol Buffers.
Work with PostgreSQL and Redis to store, retrieve, and process player statistics and leaderboard data.
Develop and run services in a Kubernetes-based environment.
Write production-quality code along with unit and integration tests.
Investigate and debug issues using logs, metrics, traces, and other observability tools.
Learn how we design and optimize distributed systems for performance, scalability, reliability, and availability.
Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions with experienced engineers.
Collaborate with engineers across Gameplay Services and EA game teams.
Participate in the team's sprint cycle, including stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, and retrospectives.
Own a well-scoped engineering project or feature from design and implementation through testing and delivery.

What We're Looking For

Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
Programming experience with Java and an understanding of object-oriented programming.
Understanding of core computer science concepts including data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and databases.
Curiosity about how large-scale systems work.
A player- and customer-focused mindset - you think about how the technology you build ultimately affects the people using it.

Exposure To Any Of The Following

What You'll Learn

You'll experience the full software development lifecycle on a production engineering team - from understanding requirements and participating in technical design to implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.

You'll gain practical experience with Java, Spring Boot, gRPC, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kubernetes while learning how distributed backend services are built and operated at EA scale.

Through mentorship, code reviews, design discussions, and hands-on development, you'll learn from experienced engineers while gradually taking greater ownership of your work.

Most importantly, you'll ship meaningful software that contributes to player experiences across EA's games.

You must be available for a full-time paid internship in the summer of 2026.

At this time, we are considering Bachelor's students who will be enrolled in an accredited degree program in the summer of 2027, slated to graduate no earlier than December 2027. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis during the 16-week internship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Pay Transparency - North America

British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$65,000 - $70,000 CAD
