Original job description

Description & Requirements

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.

EA SPORTS is one of the most iconic brands in entertainment, connecting hundreds of millions around the world to the sports they love through a portfolio of industry-leading video games.

The EA SPORTS UFC franchise offers the electrifying spectacle and entertainment of MMA for over 20 million players across the globe. It delivers fluid and responsive mixed martial arts through inventive gameplay technology. Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, the EA SPORTS UFC team is on a mission to become the world's greatest fighting game. If you're passionate about building immersive digital entertainment, this is the role of a lifetime.

We're looking for a C++ Software Engineer Intern to join our UFC team for an 8-month internship beginning in May 2027. Reporting to a Senior Software Engineer and paired with an engineering mentor, you will work on a close-knit team, contribute to game features, engine systems and tech initiatives, and learn the game development process at EA and on UFC. This team works onsite at our Burnaby studio 3 days a week, Tuesday to Thursday.

Responsibilities:

You will develop and debug features, systems and tools for a cross-platform game.
You will write C/C++ code that ships with the game.
You will follow best practices to maximize game performance across PC and console platforms.
You will collaborate with engineers, artists, designers and producers to take features from idea to screen.
You will use AI-assisted development tools, with guidance from the team, to explore code, prototype and test faster.

Requirements:

We encourage candidates from all backgrounds who meet the core requirements to apply, even if you do not meet every qualification.

You must be legally authorized to work in Canada for the entire internship - visa sponsorship is not available.
You must be enrolled in an accredited degree program and return to school for at least one semester following your internship with EA.
You must be graduating in May 2028 or later, including the time needed to complete your internship.

Qualifications:

You are enrolled in an accredited program in a related field (Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar)
Entry-level experience; prior internship, coursework, or personal projects in C++ are valued.
You are familiar with C++ and at least one other programming language.
You understand object-oriented programming and have used vector math or trigonometry in a project.
You are curious about AI-assisted development tools and can explain, test and stand behind any code you submit, including code a tool helped you write.

Application Information:

You must clearly indicate your expected graduation date in your resume to be considered.
Please apply with examples of projects, games or tools you've made major contributions to (links welcome). If multiple people worked on a project, describe exactly what you built.
Are you interested in games? Let us know! Game jams, mods, engine projects (Unreal, Unity, Godot or your own) and clubs all count.
Are you involved in any extra-curricular activities or clubs? We want to hear about them!
Submit a cover letter telling us why you want to work with the UFC team, and about your experience or interest with C++, gameplay, or other areas of software engineering.
