Original job description

Description & Requirements

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.

Founded in 2010 by the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, Respawn was created with the philosophy that when talented people have creative freedom, they'll make extraordinary games that achieve the unexpected. From our roots as an indie studio to joining the expansive roster of studios at Electronic Arts, this remains our guiding principle. We truly love what we do and want to share our passion with players worldwide. Our shipped titles include critically acclaimed multi-platform games Apex Legends, Titanfall, Titanfall 2, Star Wars™ Jedi: Fallen Order, and Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. Join us for the opportunity to create groundbreaking games with some of the best developer talent in the industry.

You can learn more about our studio and values at respawn.com/studio.

Apex Legends is looking for a UX Lead to help shape and evolve the player experience across the Apex Universe at our growing locations in Los Angeles – Chatsworth, Vancouver and Madison. Reporting to the Experience Design leadership team, you'll lead the design and delivery of impactful UX features and systems across our large, live-service product. You'll partner with multidisciplinary teams to define experience direction, guide design execution from early concepts through release, and help establish the standards and practices that ensure a cohesive, accessible, and high-quality player experience.

As a hands-on design leader, you'll balance feature ownership with team mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, and the continuous improvement of our UX craft.

Responsibilities

Lead complex UX features and systems from concept through implementation and release, translating player needs, gameplay goals, and product strategy into intuitive, high-quality experiences.
Partner with Experience Design leadership and cross-functional teams to define experience direction, align priorities, solve design challenges, and deliver cohesive player experiences.
Mentor and support UX designers through actionable feedback, design reviews, and collaborative problem-solving, while helping establish best practices, workflows, and standards that improve design quality and consistency.
Collaborate closely with engineers, UI technical designers, producers, and directors to develop feasible solutions, manage dependencies, prioritize work, and ensure high-quality implementation.
Advocate for player-centered design through prototyping, playtesting, research, and iteration, clearly communicating design rationale and influencing decisions across disciplines.

Requirements

7+ years of professional UX or interaction design experience, including experience shipping games and working within game engines.
Demonstrated experience leading complex UX initiatives, influencing cross-functional teams, and mentoring or guiding other designers.
Strong proficiency in Figma or comparable UX design tools, with experience in rapid prototyping and iterative design.
Strong understanding of interaction design, information architecture, usability, accessibility, and visual design principles.
Proven ability to balance player needs, gameplay requirements, technical constraints, and product priorities while communicating design decisions effectively.
A portfolio demonstrating high-quality UX work, complex problem-solving, and meaningful contributions to shipped products.

Nice to Have

Experience developing UX for AAA, multiplayer, live-service, or FPS games.
Experience shaping UX vision, design principles, or roadmaps across multiple features or interconnected systems.
Familiarity with interaction design across console and PC, with mobile experience also valued
