Original job description
EIPS is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dynamic Registered Social Worker to support student engagement and attendance across 3 Fort Saskatchewan schools ( Fort Saskatchewan High School, Rudolph Hennig Junior High, and SouthPointe School). Recognizing that chronic absenteeism stems from complex, multifaceted challenges, ranging from mental health concerns, trauma, and family dynamics to socioeconomic stressors, this role focuses on root-cause intervention rather than discipline. The successful candidate will work directly with students and families to build trust, reduce barriers to education, and foster meaningful connections to the school community.
- Commencing October 19, 2026
- Working 32.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday 6.5 hours per day)
- This position will be required to provide supports across 3 Fort Saskatchewan schools ( Fort Saskatchewan High School, Rudolph Hennig Junior High, and SouthPointe School) requiring regular travel between assigned division schools during the workday
- Direct Student & Family Support: Independently manage a school caseload, building trust with families through targeted interventions, home visits, and crisis support to improve attendance and engagement.
- Assessment & Safety Planning: Conduct psychosocial assessments and risk screenings to create goal-oriented intervention and safety plans while keeping accurate, confidential records that follow ACSW standards.
- School Team Consultation: Partner with principals, teachers, and support staff to offer advice on trauma-informed practices and deliver workshops or small groups for students, parents, and staff.
- Community & Agency Collaboration: Connect families with external mental health, social service, and child intervention agencies, helping them navigate complex support systems to ensure continuity of care.
EDUCATION:
- Prefer a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW).
- Minimum required: Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Good standing with the ACSW
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training and First Aid / CPR Certifications
- Experience working in an educational environment.
- Experience independently managing complex caseloads and providing professional consultation within multidisciplinary or multi-agency settings.
- Strong understanding of regulation strategies and the impact of chronic stress on the developing brain.
- Ability to apply knowledge of trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to understand their influence on student behaviour, engagement, attendance, and learning within school settings.
- Advanced knowledge of community resources and interagency collaboration.
- Knowledge of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit cultural practices, youth culture, and culturally responsive family support.
- Additional training in risk assessment, family intervention, attendance support, restorative practice, or trauma-informed practice.
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
