Original job description

Work Location: Richmond Hill, ON (Hybrid)

Who We Are

At Embross, we build technology that quietly powers millions of travel experiences every day. From check-in to boarding, there’s a strong chance that our hardware or software played a role in getting passengers where they need to go.

We partner with some of the world’s leading airlines and airports to deliver passenger automation and self-service solutions that make travel faster, simpler, and less stressful. For our partners, that means more efficient operations and better passenger experiences. For us, it means solving complex, real-world challenges at global scale.

What makes Embross unique is the breadth of what we do. We work across a diverse stack that blends hardware, software, and real-time systems in some of the busiest and most demanding environments in the world. It’s a space where creativity, engineering, and operational thinking come together.

If you’re motivated by meaningful problems, tangible impact, and the opportunity to shape how people move through the world, we should talk.

What You’ll Do

We’re entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation as we evolve our platform, expand our product capabilities, and embrace increasingly data-driven environments.

As a Solution Architect, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our technology stack and solutions. This is more than a technical role, it is an opportunity to influence product direction, drive architectural excellence, and contribute to solutions used globally.

You’ll collaborate closely with Solution Architects, Software Managers, Product Owners, and Business Analysts to design scalable, resilient, and forward-looking systems. You’ll help define clear technical roadmaps, guide implementation, and ultimately take ownership of key components of our Common-Use Self-Service (CUSS) platform.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing big-picture thinking with hands-on technical depth, someone who is equally comfortable whiteboarding architecture as they are diving into technical details when needed.

You will:

Design and architect scalable, high-performance solutions across a modern and evolving technology stack
Contribute to the evolution and ownership of Embross’ CUSS platform
Partner cross-functionally to translate business needs into robust technical solutions
Drive best practices in software design, architecture, and development standards
Support and mentor teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence
Contribute to innovation efforts as we explore new products and capabilities in the airport technology space

Who You Are

You’re a technically strong and curious problem-solver who thrives in collaborative environments. You enjoy mentoring others, sharing knowledge, and building solutions that have real-world impact.

You bring both structure and creativity, able to design scalable systems while adapting to evolving requirements in a fast-moving environment.

Core Qualifications:

Strong experience designing modern web application architectures using JavaScript/TypeScript-based technology stacks
Experience architecting interactive web applications, including frontend frameworks, application workflows, and state-driven designs (for example XState or similar approaches)
Deep expertise designing kiosk, POS, self-service, or high-availability systems, including solutions that integrate with hardware, peripherals, and edge environments
Experience designing scalable application architectures including microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven solutions
Strong understanding of backend service design, API architecture, and integration patterns
Experience designing and managing APIs including REST, OpenAPI/Swagger, and enterprise integration approaches
Proficiency with SQL and document databases such as MongoDB, including data modeling and scalability considerations
Strong understanding of networking concepts, system communication patterns, security considerations, and scalable infrastructure design
Ability to define technical architecture, create solution designs, and produce clear technical documentation and specifications
Experience collaborating with development teams, product owners, customers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Typically 5+ years of experience in software development, with demonstrated experience in solution architecture, technical leadership, or designing complex software systems

You’ll stand out if you also have:

Familiarity with IATA standards (CUSS, CUPPS, CUTE, etc.)
Experience in the travel and transportation domain (airlines, airports, DCS, reservation systems)

Most importantly, you’re someone who is energized by growth, both your own and the company’s, and excited to contribute to something meaningful.

Work Environment & Travel

This role is primarily based out of our Richmond Hill office, with occasional travel depending on project needs.

What We Offer

At Embross, we believe that great technology is built by great teams, and that means investing in our people, our culture, and our shared success.

A Culture That Supports You

You’ll be part of a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive environment where ideas are encouraged, contributions are valued, and people genuinely enjoy working together. We take pride in fostering a culture where innovation thrives and individuals are empowered to make an impact.

Meaningful Work with Real Impact

Your work will directly influence the travel experience of passengers around the world. You’ll be solving real problems in complex environments, with the opportunity to see your solutions in action.

Growth & Development

We are committed to building from within. You’ll have access to challenging projects, leadership opportunities, and a clear path to grow your skills and career.

Comprehensive Benefits

Employer-paid health, dental, vision, and life insurance
Short-term and long-term disability coverage
Employer RRSP contribution (minimum 3% of base salary)
Performance-based profit-sharing program (up to 15% of base salary)
Flexible working environment

A Connected Team

We believe strong teams are built both inside and outside of work. From team events to social gatherings, BBQs, bowling, picnics, and more, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to connect with colleagues.

Our Commitment

Embross values diversity and inclusion and is committed to creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and supported. If you require accommodations at any stage of the recruitment process, please reach out to careers@embross.com
