emergiTEL is hiring a Technical Operations & Compliance Lead. This is a Permanent role.
Compensation: $112,000 - $140,000/year
Location: Montreal (Hybrid, minimum 3 days in office)
About the Role
Join a fast-growing B2B travel technology company specializing in airline commission payment processing.
This role will serve as the operational backbone of the engineering team, working closely with Architecture and technical leadership. The focus is on orchestrating the team, prioritizing work, building strong processes, and ensuring effective day-to-day technical operations.
We are looking for someone practical, hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable working in a startup or smaller-company environment.
Technical Operations & Team Orchestration
- Own and improve day-to-day engineering operations and delivery processes.
- Work closely with Architecture to prioritize technical initiatives and align team capacity with business needs.
- Coordinate engineering resources, priorities, timelines, and dependencies.
- Identify and proactively address delivery risks, blockers, and operational challenges.
- Establish practical processes that improve team efficiency, accountability, and execution.
- Support sprint planning, retrospectives, daily team operations, and delivery tracking.
- Manage Jira workflows, dashboards, sprint tracking, and capacity planning.
People Leadership & Process Management
- Provide day-to-day leadership and coordination for technical team members.
- Support performance management, feedback, onboarding, and professional development processes.
- Help establish clear roles, responsibilities, workflows, and team expectations.
- Build a collaborative and accountable engineering culture.
- Identify opportunities to improve team productivity and workload distribution.
Production Operations & Incident Management
- Coordinate production support, monitoring, triage, escalation, and resolution.
- Establish practical incident management and escalation processes.
- Coordinate remediation efforts with technical leadership.
- Support post-incident reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Financial & Vendor Operations
- Track resource utilization and external technology resources against budgets.
- Monitor AWS infrastructure and SaaS technology costs.
- Support technology budget tracking and reporting.
- Manage relationships with technology vendors, partners, and service providers.
- Support contracts, renewals, and vendor performance management.
Security & Compliance
- Support the organization’s SOC 2 compliance activities, including controls, access management, evidence, and documentation.
- Work with security and compliance partners to ensure operational requirements are maintained.
- Support security initiatives and contribute to the organization’s broader security roadmap.
- Direct ownership of a SOC 2 Type 2 audit is not required; practical knowledge and exposure to SOC 2 processes and controls are sufficient.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in technical operations, engineering operations, project delivery, or a related technology leadership role.
- Strong experience owning processes, coordinating teams, and managing technical priorities.
- Proven ability to work effectively in startup, scale-up, or smaller-company environments.
- Practical, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-changing environment.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and cloud environments, preferably AWS.
- Experience with Jira, sprint planning, delivery tracking, and capacity planning.
- Experience coordinating incident management and production support processes.
- Strong people leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience supporting technical teams through onboarding, performance management, and development initiatives.
- Exposure to SOC 2, security controls, compliance processes, or security audits is an asset.
