About the role.
McCain Foods (Canada) is seeking an On-call Power Engineer to join our Fry Plant facility in Grand Falls, New Brunswick. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance support of steam, refrigeration, and ancillary utility systems. The position operates in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and requires flexibility to work 12-hour rotating shifts on an as-needed basis (2 days, 2 nights, 4-on/4-off schedule).
This position is physically demanding and requires regular walking, standing, bending, and lifting of up to 35-40 lbs. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and the ability to perform effectively in a dynamic production environment.
What you’ll be doing.
- Operate and troubleshoot steam systems, ammonia refrigeration systems, and ancillary equipment including air compressors and HVAC systems.
- Assist with preventive and predictive maintenance activities on utility and process support equipment.
- Complete required operating procedures, testing, monitoring, and associated documentation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and perform routine housekeeping activities.
- Support maintenance and production teams to ensure reliable plant operations.
- Respond to call-ins and support a continuous 365-day manufacturing operation as required.
- Follow all GMP, HACCP, food safety, and plant safety procedures and best operating practices.
- Complete a minimum of one safety interaction per month.
- Perform daily MDI activities, including Clean, Inspect, Detect (CID) tasks and basic equipment adjustments when centrelines are out of specification.
- Participate in shift handovers, huddle board meetings, and communicate operational updates effectively across shifts.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What you’ll need to be successful.
- Valid 3rd Class Engineer’s Certificate in accordance with the New Brunswick Power Engineer’s Act.
- Experience working with steam systems and ammonia refrigeration systems is considered an asset.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, email communication, Windows operating systems, and control system HMI interfaces.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
- Experience with SAP or other computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must be clean shaven to meet respiratory protection requirements.
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
About the team.
The On-call Power Engineer is part of the Fry Plant operations team in Grand Falls, NB, supporting the facility's critical utility and refrigeration systems. This role works closely with production, maintenance, and reliability teams to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted plant operations. Team members collaborate in a highly engaged manufacturing environment focused on safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Compensation Package: - Starting at 45.32 CAD hourly + Hourly Pay Differential for applicable shifts
