Original job description

Enable Inclusion Technologies is a North Bay R&D company building affordable assistive hardware for people with disabilities. Our first product is an adaptive hearing device for people who can't afford commercial hearing aids. It senses its environment with a microphone array, checks fit with a pressure sensor, and calibrates sound for each user, all on the device with no app required.

We're looking for a Hardware Engineering Intern to help take it from concept to a tested prototype ready for manufacturing discussions.

The details

  • Location: On-site, 222 Main St E, North Bay
  • Hours: 30 hrs/week, Mon to Fri, 52 weeks
  • Pay: $35 to $45/hour
  • Reports to: CTO

What your year looks like

  • Months 1-3: Research existing hearing devices and define specs for the mic array, fit sensor, amplification circuit, and calibration
  • Months 4-6: Source components, design schematics and PCBs, build and debug prototypes
  • Months 7-9: Run bench tests (sound quality, sensing accuracy, fit detection, battery), then improve the design
  • Months 10-12: Build a BOM and unit cost model, support user fit-testing, and deliver a final technical report

What we're looking for

  • Degree, diploma, or certificate completed in the last 3 years in Electronics, Embedded Systems, Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
  • Solid grasp of basic analog and digital circuits
  • Hands-on prototyping experience (soldering, breadboarding, assembly)
  • Comfort with a multimeter and oscilloscope
  • Clear writing and careful documentation habits

Nice to have

  • Experience with sensors, microphones, or audio circuits
  • Microcontroller programming in C/C++ (Arduino, STM32, ESP32)
  • PCB design (KiCad, Altium) or 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
  • Interest in health tech, hearing health, or accessibility

Why join us

You'll get a full year of paid, hands-on experience, a portfolio covering circuit design, sensor integration, testing, and cost analysis, direct mentorship from company leadership, and the chance to build something that improves access to hearing support. We're a small team, so your work will directly shape the product.

Eligibility: This role is funded through the Northern Ontario Youth Internship Program (NOYIP). Candidates must meet NOYIP eligibility requirements, confirmed before hiring.

How to apply: Email your resume and a short cover letter (include any hardware projects you've worked on) to Jeby@enabledtalent.com with the subject line "Hardware Engineering Intern Application."

  • Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

Enable Inclusion Technologies is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available at every stage of the hiring process.
