Original job description

Why this role exists

At Encepta, everything starts with field.

Our crews collect the data that telecommunications and utility infrastructure is built on. They work across BC and Alberta, supported by vehicle-mounted LiDAR, in-house software, and advanced data technology.

As we grow, we’re creating dedicated leadership for field operations. Reporting to the COO, you’ll lead four experienced managers and own how our field work is planned, resourced, and delivered.

What you’ll do

  • Lead through managers: Coach four field managers, strengthen accountability, and develop teams that operate confidently and independently.
  • Own field delivery: Coordinate crews, vehicles, equipment, and scheduling across BC and Alberta, meeting commitments safely and reliably.
  • Improve performance: Standardize processes, strengthen training, and reduce avoidable cost, delay, and rework.
  • Make technology stick: Partner with our technology teams to pilot tools, train crews, and embed improvements into daily work.
  • Know the numbers: Manage the field budget, resource allocation, subcontractors, and delivery costs.
  • Connect the teams: Work closely with Engineering & Data, program leads and account managers to anticipate demand and resolve risks early.

What success looks like

In your first year, you’ll establish clear operating measures, develop each manager and deliver measurable improvements in safety, cost, utilisation and reliability. You’ll bring greater consistency to field programs and put new tools or processes into everyday use.

We’ll agree specific priorities and targets together.

Who this is for

You’ve led field operations through other managers in telecommunications, utilities, engineering, construction, geomatics or a similar technical services environment. You bring:

  • Substantial progressive operations experience, typically 10 years or more.
  • Practical safety leadership around live infrastructure.
  • Ownership of operating budgets, resources and delivery performance.
  • Examples of improving processes and successfully introducing change.
  • A record of developing managers and strengthening team capability.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent experience.

You’re comfortable with data, curious about technology and willing to spend time where the work happens. When delivery gets difficult, you bring clear options and follow through.

What we offer

  • A direct line to the COO and a voice in Encepta’s leadership group.
  • Four experienced managers and capable field teams.
  • The authority to shape how field operations work.
  • Technology that is changing how infrastructure data is captured and used.
  • Competitive base salary plus performance compensation.
  • Strong benefits and RRSP matching.

The estimated base pay rate for this position is CAD $140,000 to CAD $160,000 per year as of the posting date. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and training. Please note that this range reflects the base pay rate only and does not include any applicable bonuses or benefits.
