Original job description

Commercial Manager (Supply Chain Manager)

One Regular position

Non-unionized

Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada

Salary range: $102,717 - $141,097 annually

Competition # E22698-2026

At NB Power we are a team committed to offering the best customer experience, ensuring energy security, and accelerating a sustainable clean energy transition. Why? Because we’re New Brunswickers too, we care about our customers and future generations, and today we are actively looking for a new member to join us.

The Mactaquac Generating Station began generating electricity in 1968. Since the 1980s, concrete portions of the hydro station have been affected by a chemical reaction called alkali-aggregate reaction. The reaction causes the concrete to swell and crack and has required substantial annual maintenance and repairs. NB Power is proposing a project to ensure the station can operate to its intended 100-year lifespan with a modified approach to maintenance and adjusting and replacing equipment and concrete overtime.

As part of the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project, the Commercial Manager is responsible for leading and managing the end-to-end commercial functions of the project, ensuring the effective planning, execution, and oversight of commercial strategy, procurement, contracting, inventory management, and contract administration. The role ensures all commercial activities are delivered in a transparent, compliant, and cost-effective manner while supporting the successful delivery of project objectives.

Key functions include:

Commercial Governance
Lead the commercial governance framework and continuously improve commercial processes, standards, and controls
Provide commercial guidance to leadership and project stakeholders on contractual, financial, and commercial matters
Procurement and Contract Management
Lead procurement and oversee contract development, administration, and close-out in compliance with organizational standards
Manage commercial risks, claims, variations, and disputes to support successful project delivery
Contractor and Supplier Management
Oversee contractor-led procurement and manage commercial relationships with contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure compliance and resolve commercial issues
Inventory & Materials Management
Oversee project inventory and warehouse operations, ensuring accurate material tracking and compliance with financial and contractual requirements
Performance Reporting
Develop KPIs, monitor commercial performance, and recommend corrective actions where required

Our ideal teammate will have:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or related discipline
Seven years of relevant experience in procurement and contract management within large, complex construction or infrastructure projects, including a minimum of three years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of commercial risk, claims management, financial analysis, and reporting
Proven leadership, negotiation, communication, stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Experience with project management and cost management systems is considered an asset
Supply Chain certification will be considered as an asset

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.

An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.

We care for our team, and as a member you will have access to:

Health & Dental plans that provide flexible options to meet your needs=
Health Spending Account, allowing for further flexibility
New Brunswick Public Service Pension Plan, offering retirement financial security
Wellness options, including our Employee Family Assistance Program
Benefits that allow for financial protection in the event it is needed
Various options for paid or unpaid leaves
Career development and growth throughout the organization
