Coordinator, Operations

Two Regular unionized positions

Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada

Salary range: $42.34 - $52.87 hourly based on 40 hours per week

Competition # E22692-2026

At NB Power we are a team, committed to offering the best customer experience, ensuring energy security, and accelerating a sustainable clean energy transition. Why? Because we’re New Brunswickers too, we care about our customers and future generations, and today we are actively looking for a new member to join us.

The Mactaquac Generating Station began generating electricity in 1968. Since the 1980s, concrete portions of the hydro station have been affected by a chemical reaction called alkali-aggregate reaction. The reaction causes the concrete to swell and crack and has required substantial annual maintenance and repairs. NB Power is proposing a project to ensure the station can operate to its intended 100-year lifespan with a modified approach to maintenance and adjusting and replacing equipment and concrete overtime.

As a part of the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project (MLAP) team, the Coordinator Operations coordinates construction, commissioning, and operational activities at a hydroelectric generating facility to support safe, efficient work. The Coordinator, Operations manages operational interfaces and permit-to-work coordination, communicates with project teams and contractors, and helps resolve work conflicts while ensuring compliance with NB Power’s work practices, operational standards, and safety requirements.

Key functions include:

  • Operational Interface Management: Coordinate daily work and communication among Operations, Construction, Commissioning, contractors, and project teams. Plan work, resolve conflicts between operational and project activities, and align operational priorities with project schedules.
  • Permit-to-Work Coordination: Manage permits according to station procedures and safety requirements. Ensure work groups understand hazards and controls, verify isolations and safe conditions, and monitor compliance.
  • Construction and Commissioning Support: Coordinate and oversee operational activities during construction and commissioning. Review schedules, support safe turnovers, energization, and operational readiness, guide personnel, and review or help develop relevant operating, maintenance, commissioning, and start-up procedures.
  • Technical Review and Risk Assessment: Review electrical and mechanical drawings and related technical documents. Assess system impacts, identify operational, safety, and reliability risks, recommend ways to address them, and contribute to planning, hazard assessments, readiness reviews, and improvements.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Promote NB Power’s Zero Harm commitment and ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements. Work with Health Safety Environment to address hazards, participate in inspections and audits, report concerns and incidents, and support ongoing safety improvements.

Our ideal teammate will have:

  • A two-year diploma in technology, electrical, mechanical or power engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Five years of related experience in hydroelectric generation or industrial operations, including construction, commissioning, or maintenance
  • A strong understanding of hydroelectric systems, plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment, and its related risks, with the ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and commissioning documents.
  • Familiarity with operational readiness, permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout procedures, and operational risk management
  • Experience in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and contractors
  • Experience reviewing work schedules, tracking equipment and progress, and preparing work status updates
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.

An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
