Senior Technicians

Two (2) Regular positions (1 Civil, 1 Electrical)

Mactaquac, New Brunswick, Canada

Salary range: $37.64 to $48.10 hourly based on 40 hours per week

Competition # E22651-2026

At NB Power we are a team, committed to offering the best customer experience, ensuring energy security, and accelerating a sustainable clean energy transition. Why? Because we’re New Brunswickers too, we care about our customers and future generations, and today we are actively looking for a new member to join us.

The Mactaquac Generating Station began generating electricity in 1968. Since the 1980s, concrete portions of the hydro station have been affected by a chemical reaction called alkali-aggregate reaction. The reaction causes the concrete to swell and crack and has required substantial annual maintenance and repairs. NB Power is proposing a project to ensure the station can operate to its intended 100-year lifespan with a modified approach to maintenance and adjusting and replacing equipment and concrete over time.

As part of the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project, both the Senior Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls and Civil Technicians are responsible for overseeing and coordinating all on-site construction activities, ensuring they align with contract documents, drawings, and specifications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the project is executed safely, on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Civil key functions include:

  • Oversee day-to-day construction activities, ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, safety, and quality standards, and coordinate site logistics and stakeholder interfaces.
  • Track progress, maintain daily reporting, manage scope changes, support claims negotiations, and ensure accurate documentation and project controls.
  • Guide contractors and internal teams, develop direct reports, foster a high-performance culture, and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Our ideal teammate will have:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology
  • Six years of experience in construction projects in hydro generation or heavy industrial. This includes surveying with strong knowledge of construction contracts, drawings, codes, and specifications
  • Skilled in planning, scheduling, look-ahead coordination, and progress reporting
  • Proficient in managing field activities, contractor coordination, project controls, and change management
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities, with experience mentoring or managing teams
  • Proficient with construction scheduling tools and Microsoft Office suite (Project, Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Design experience and PMP or equivalent project management certification are considered assets

Electrical key functions include:

  • Oversee day-to-day Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls construction and commissioning activities, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, safety requirements, and quality standards, while coordinating site electrical work, system integration, and stakeholder interfaces.
  • Track progress of electrical and instrumentation installations, maintain daily reporting, manage scope changes, support contract and claims processes, and ensure accurate documentation, testing records, and project controls for EI&C systems.
  • Provide technical guidance to electrical contractors and multidisciplinary teams, support development of direct reports, promote a high-performance and safety-focused culture, and collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, and commissioning teams.

Our ideal teammate will have:

One of the following:

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Industrial Control Technology Diploma
  • Instrumentation/Control Technology Diploma

And

  • Six years of experience in construction projects in hydro generation, EI&C systems, or heavy industrial environments, with strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation installation practices, construction contracts, drawings, codes, and technical specifications

  • Proficient in managing field activities, contractor coordination, project controls, and change management
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities, with experience mentoring or managing teams
  • Proficient with construction scheduling tools and Microsoft Office suite (Project, Excel, Word, Outlook)
