Director, IT & Business Intelligence

Role Summary

The Director, IT & Business Intelligence is responsible for stabilizing, structuring, and scaling ENERGY’s IT, integration, and data ecosystem during a critical phase of transformation.

This role will take ownership of a partially fragmented environment and bring clarity, reliability, and scalability across systems, integrations, and data. The Director will ensure strong day-to-day IT operations while building the foundation for a high-performing, data-driven organization.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced, mid-sized environment, requiring a player-coach who can operate both strategically and tactically, with a strong bias for action and problem-solving.

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

  • Establish a clear and documented view of current-state architecture (systems, integrations, data flows, dependencies)
  • Stabilize critical infrastructure and recurring system issues
  • Assess and prioritize integration and EDI reliability gaps
  • Bring structure to data governance, ownership, and definitions
  • Deliver initial high-impact dashboards for Operations, Sales, and Finance
  • Define a practical roadmap for integration, automation, and BI scalability

Key Responsibilities

IT Operations & Infrastructure Stability

  • Own and oversee day-to-day IT operations (helpdesk, infrastructure, systems administration)
  • Ensure system reliability, performance, and security across all platforms
  • Establish and manage SLAs, prioritization frameworks, and escalation protocols
  • Identify and eliminate recurring issues through root cause analysis and proactive monitoring
  • Manage external vendors and technology partners with clear accountability

Integration, EDI & System Architecture Ownership

  • Own and define ENERGY’s system architecture and integration strategy
  • Lead the stabilization, optimization, and scalability of system integrations (TMS, CRM, ERP, WMS, etc.)
  • Oversee EDI processes with customers and partners, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and efficiency
  • Document and structure data flows, system dependencies, and integration logic
  • Establish system-of-record principles and data ownership clarity
  • Identify and resolve integration gaps, inefficiencies, and operational risks

Business Intelligence & Data Enablement

  • Build and deliver executive-level dashboards (CEO, Sales, Operations, Finance)
  • Enable real-time visibility into key business metrics (revenue, GP, service, productivity)
  • Translate business needs into scalable data solutions that drive decision-making
  • Improve data quality, accessibility, and consistency across systems
  • Establish data governance standards (definitions, ownership, usage)
  • Support commercial strategy through data insights (pricing, segmentation, performance)

Automation & Process Optimization

  • Identify and implement automation opportunities across operational workflows
  • Reduce manual intervention through integration and process redesign
  • Partner with Operations and Sales to improve efficiency, scalability, and execution quality
  • Contribute to achieving automation targets across the order lifecycle

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary IT team (Helpdesk, Sys Admin, Integration/EDI, BI)
  • Operate as a player-coach, directly involved in problem-solving and execution
  • Clarify roles, responsibilities, and priorities across subteams
  • Drive accountability, performance management, and continuous improvement
  • Foster strong collaboration between IT, Operations, Sales, and Finance

Governance, Documentation & Continuity

  • Establish and enforce documentation standards across systems, integrations, and data
  • Ensure continuity, knowledge transfer, and reduced dependency on individuals
  • Bring structure and discipline to a historically fragmented environment

Profile & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in IT leadership within a fast-paced, mid-sized, or high-growth environment
  • Strong expertise in systems integration (APIs, EDI, data flows) and business intelligence
  • Demonstrated ability to stabilize and structure complex or underdeveloped environments
  • Hands-on, player-coach mindset with a strong bias for action
  • Solid understanding of IT infrastructure, systems administration, and support functions
  • Experience working with TMS, CRM, ERP, or similar operational systems (logistics experience is an asset)
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into business outcomes
  • Proven ability to operate in ambiguous, evolving environments
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally

Success Factors

  • Brings clarity, structure, and ownership to a fragmented environment
  • Builds a scalable and well-documented integration and data ecosystem
  • Delivers stable, reliable IT operations with minimal disruption
  • Enables better, faster decision-making through high-quality data
  • Drives automation and efficiency across the organization
  • Acts as a true business partner, not just a technical leader

Why This Role Matters

By stabilizing IT operations and building a strong integration and data foundation, the Director will directly impact:

  • Operational efficiency
  • Commercial performance
  • Decision-making quality
