About Clean Energy BC

The Clean Energy Association of British Columbia (CEBC) is a province-wide, non-profit industry association advancing responsible, equitable clean-energy development. For more than 35 years, CEBC has convened First Nations, independent power producers, utilities, technology companies, manufacturers, service providers, academic institutions and innovators to strengthen British Columbia’s clean-energy economy. CEBC advocates for policies and partnerships that accelerate electrification, enable investment, advance economic reconciliation and support a reliable, affordable and resilient electricity system.

CEBC works with governments, BC Hydro, regulators, Indigenous governments and industry partners through direct advocacy, regulatory and policy processes, member working groups, public communications and major industry events, including two annual conferences and tradeshow programming, networking events and engagement at the BC Legislature.

Summary & Key Functions

The Executive Director is Clean Energy BC's chief executive and its public voice. Working with the Board, the Executive Director shapes long-term strategy and annual priorities. In addition, they maintain proactive communication that keeps the Board appraised of potential risks and opportunities facing the sector. More than anything else, this is a government relations job. The Executive Director owns the advocacy strategy, decides which issues CEBC pursues and carries the relationships personally. Those relationships reach into senior government and extend to BC Hydro and the B.C. Utilities Commission, and they depend on being non-partisan and durable. Doing that credibly takes real fluency in how British Columbia's electricity system works, including integrated resource planning, calls for power, and BC Hydro's long-term plans.

Indigenous partnership is a core value of this organization. The successful candidate understands the importance of building trust with First Nations as rights holders and not simply stakeholders. Working to advance Indigenous ownership in the sector and the shared economic benefit that follows from it. Membership is the other side of the work. Strong relationships across CEBC's diverse membership are what surface member priorities, and the Executive Director turns those priorities into policy positions that hold up under scrutiny. Inside the organization, the Executive Director leads a small team that works remotely. Knowledge on how to effectively develop a team and nurture a collaborative team environment in a remote setting will be key to success. The role also carries the budget, the financial reporting that goes to the Board, and the responsibility for strengthening revenue through membership growth, sponsorship and partnerships.

As the Executive Director, you will be responsible for these key functions:

Government Relations, Advocacy & Public Policy

Build and sustain trusted, non-partisan relationships with the Premier’s Office, ministers, MLAs, deputy ministers, senior public servants, BC Hydro, the B.C. Utilities Commission, regulators, federal counterparts and other decision-makers.
Serve as CEBC’s principal advocate in government consultations, legislative and regulatory processes, advisory tables, public announcements and direct meetings.
Translate member priorities into clear, evidence-based policy positions, advocacy plans, briefing materials, submissions and decision-maker engagement.

Indigenous Relationships & Economic Reconciliation

Build respectful, long-term relationships with Indigenous governments, organizations and clean-energy leaders.
Advance policy and industry practices that enable meaningful Indigenous ownership, participation, capacity and shared economic benefits.
Ensure CEBC’s advocacy and programming reflect Indigenous perspectives and support durable partnerships.

Strategic Leadership & Board Governance

Work with the Board to establish long-term strategy, annual priorities and measurable organizational outcomes.
Provide candid, timely advice on sector developments, organizational risks and strategic choices.

Membership & Sector Leadership

Deliver demonstrable value through advocacy, intelligence, convening, working groups and access to decision-makers.
Engage members across technologies, regions and organizational sizes; reconcile competing perspectives into credible common positions.

Communication & Public Affairs

Act as chief spokesperson in media interviews, public speaking, conferences, panels, government events and stakeholder forums.
Communicate complex energy, regulatory and economic issues clearly to political, technical and public audiences.

Organizational, Financial & People Leadership

Lead, mentor and evaluate a small professional team and contractors; create a respectful, accountable and high-performing culture.
Develop and oversee annual budgets, forecasts, controls and regular financial reporting to the Board.
Strengthen revenue through membership growth, sponsorship, grants, partnerships and other appropriate sources.

Your Toolkit Includes

Minimum eight years of progressively senior leadership experience in government relations, public affairs, an industry association, government, Indigenous organization, energy organization or a comparable policy-intensive environment.
Post-secondary education in public policy, political science, business, law, engineering, environmental studies or a related discipline; equivalent experience will be considered.
Demonstrated success designing and personally leading advocacy strategies that influenced government, regulatory or public-policy outcomes.
Demonstrated experience building respectful relationships with Indigenous governments and organizations and advancing economic reconciliation.
Strong knowledge of British Columbia’s political, policy and regulatory systems and the ability to operate effectively with elected officials, senior public servants, Crown corporations and regulators.
Established relationships across the Government of British Columbia, BC Hydro, regulators, Indigenous leadership and the clean-energy sector.
Experience leading a membership-based association or complex coalition.
Credible understanding of clean-energy technologies and policy, including electricity procurement, transmission, interconnection, permitting, regulation and project development.

This is a full-time, permanent position. This is a hybrid position, with regular travel across BC, requiring the successful candidate to be located in BC. The role offers a competitive target hiring salary range of $150,000-$170,000 annually, along with a comprehensive total compensation package, including RRSP matching program, paid professional development support, and holiday closure.
