Original job description
About DGV:
Destination Greater Victoria (DGV) is a dynamic destination marketing organization looking to add to our talented team. With a membership of over 950 businesses, we offer a fast-paced, positive and results-oriented culture. We offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the tourism industry and work collaboratively with a variety of local businesses to drive year-round sustainable growth for Greater Victoria.
Summary of Stewardship & Sustainability Co-op role:
Want to see what sustainability looks like in a real tourism destination? Over a four-month, full-time term at DGV, you'll work alongside our Destination Stewardship & Sustainability Specialist on programs that support DGV's members. Much of your time will go to the Biosphere Certification Accelerator Program, where you'll give members one-on-one support as they work toward certification. You'll also gather evidence for the annual Global Destination Sustainability Index Assessment. The work goes well beyond research. Each week, you'll write Destination Stewardship content for the Member Minutes newsletter, highlighting sustainability initiatives and resources for members. Data matters here too. Tracking DGV's sustainability impact and pulling together findings that inform strategic decisions will be part of your role. Some days will take you out of the office to regional stewardship workshops and First Nation relations events. Others might end at an industry mixer, where you'll meet people working in tourism and sustainability and start building your professional network. Bring a genuine passion for sustainability and a curious, analytical mind, and you'll leave with hands-on experience in how a destination puts sustainability into practice.
This is an in-person role, requiring the successful candidate to be located in the Greater Victoria region. It is a full-time 4-month co-op position, 35 hours per week. The hourly wage is $25.00.
What you need to bring:
Current enrolment in a recognized post-secondary co-op program in a relevant field, such as business administration, circular economics, environmental or social sustainability, environmental sciences, or environmental management.
Genuine passion for sustainability with curiosity to learn and engage.
Coursework or interest in sustainability research and reporting is an asset.
Foundational understanding of sustainability concepts and principles, including the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Strong writing, research, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources into clear and compelling written content.
Strong organizational skills and intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with an interest in working with data, metrics, and reporting.
Strong sense of initiative and ability to work on assigned tasks with guidance and support.
Comfortable participating in and contributing to group discussions.
Application Information:
If Destination Greater Victoria sounds like a team you want to be part of, we want to hear from you! Please apply with your cover letter and resume.
For a full outline of the role and its responsibilities, please see the complete job description. Applications will be accepted for this opportunity until noon PCT Friday, November 20.

DGV's selection of employees is based on the criteria identified in the job description so that the best-qualified applicants are chosen.
