Java Developer with Kafka
Location: Montreal, QC, Canada (relocation candidates are welcome)

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Java Developer with expertise in Java 17+, Spring Boot, and backend application development. The ideal candidate will contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of enterprise applications, with exposure to Kafka, microservices, and modern software engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise applications using Java and related technologies.
- Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design, implementation, testing, and production support.
- Build and maintain REST APIs, backend services, and scalable application components.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, and technology teams to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Follow engineering best practices for code quality, automated testing, application resiliency, performance, and operational support.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex application issues in production environments.
- Contribute to application modernization, continuous improvement, and Agile delivery initiatives.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
- Experience developing and supporting REST APIs and backend services.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, and coding best practices.
- Experience with SQL, relational databases, and data access technologies.
- Knowledge of automated testing frameworks and CI/CD practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working in Agile development teams.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
- Exposure to Elasticsearch and Angular.
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted applications and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience with observability tools and OpenTelemetry.
- Background in financial services or other large-scale enterprise environments.
- Experience supporting production applications and improving system reliability.
