Position Description:
As a QA Specialist in our Ottawa office, you will help validate the quality, reliability, usability, and security of Entrust software solutions used by government, enterprise, and financial services customers. You will work as part of a cross-functional engineering team to plan, execute, and document testing across web applications, APIs, integrations, cloud and on-premises deployments, and complex customer workflows. This role is hands-on and collaborative, combining structured manual testing, exploratory testing, defect investigation, regression testing, and practical test automation to help deliver secure, dependable products from our Ottawa engineering centre.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, execute, and maintain functional, regression, integration, exploratory, and end-to-end test cases for Entrust software products and customer workflows.
- Test web applications, APIs, services, integrations, installers, and supported deployment configurations across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Configure and validate representative test environments, including identity, directory, database, network, browser, operating system, and application dependencies.
- Create, update, and execute automated tests using approved QA automation tools and frameworks where automation provides sustainable release value.
- Investigate, reproduce, document, and track defects with clear steps, logs, screenshots, expected results, actual results, severity, and business impact.
- Collaborate daily with developers, product owners, technical leads, project managers, support, and other QA team members to clarify requirements, acceptance criteria, risks, and release readiness.
- Contribute to sprint planning, story refinement, test estimation, release planning, defect triage, and retrospectives in an Agile development environment.
- Review requirements, design notes, user stories, and customer scenarios to identify test coverage gaps, edge cases, quality risks, and opportunities for earlier feedback.
- Use approved AI-assisted development and testing tools, including GitHub Copilot where appropriate, to support test-case drafting, automation scripting, documentation, and regression analysis while validating outputs with sound QA judgment.
- Help improve QA practices, test documentation, reusable test assets, release metrics, and team approaches that increase product quality and reduce manual rework.
Basic Qualifications:
- 2+ years of relevant experience in software testing, quality assurance, technical support, IT infrastructure, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience writing and executing test cases for web applications, APIs, services, integrations, or enterprise software workflows.
- Working knowledge of defect tracking and test management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Zephyr, TestRail, or similar systems.
- Ability to analyze requirements, document clear test results, communicate risks, and work effectively with development and product teams.
- Basic scripting, SQL, API testing, or test automation experience using tools or languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Python, PowerShell, Selenium, Playwright, Postman, RestAssured, or comparable technologies.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum practices and a clear understanding of the QA role and responsibilities within an Agile development environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, curiosity, and a quality-focused mindset.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization in Canada.
Where you will be: This role is based in our Ottawa office at 2500 Solandt Road, Suite 100, Ottawa, ON K2K 3G5. The successful candidate will collaborate with local Ottawa/Kanata engineering teams as well as distributed colleagues across Entrust.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS/BA, college diploma, or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
- Experience testing identity, credential issuance, payments, digital security, mobile, cloud, or enterprise customer-facing solutions.
- Experience with API testing, database validation, log analysis, browser developer tools, virtual machines, containers, or cloud-hosted test environments.
- Practical automation experience with Playwright, Selenium, RestAssured, Postman/Newman, or similar frameworks and tools.
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub, Bitbucket, CI/CD pipelines, build validation, and test execution as part of a software delivery workflow.
- Familiarity with security, privacy, accessibility, performance, reliability, or usability testing practices.
